Not one of the men withdrew his namo from the primary list BRIEF NEWS OF OREGON OREGON BATTALION MUTINIES IN FIELD Gate, Wash. Mutiny broke out Sun day in the Third Oregon Infantry when the Second Battalion of four companies, commanded by Major Ry lund Scott, refused to obey orders. Directed to make a march of four miles from this point b;yk to Oak ville, whence they b.id Just come, the battalion officers held a conference and decided not to obey. The order which was spurned was Issued by Col onel John M. I'oorniau, commanding the OrcMon regiment, at the instance of Prigadier-Ueneral Marlon P. Maus. I'nited States army. As the outcome of the refusal to obey, four Oregon officers were placed under arrest at the direction of Gen eral Maus. The four are: Major Scott, Captain Harry T. Williams, Captain Waller L. Tooze, Jr., First Lieutenant Richard IVIeh. To the charge of refusal to obey orders may be added a second charge of Insubordination. Hawley'a Fortune Is Cut New York. I Wallace 8. In an effort to secure manufactories for Medford, an official offer of free water, free sites, free lights and pow er bas been made by local business men. The sites will be donated out right and tax exemption is promised for a term of years. The supreme court of Oregon has reversed the Marlon county circuit court in the University of Oregon ref erendum case and dismissed the suits. This means that the refere idums gainst the appropriations of over $600,000 will go on the ballot. Miss Molly V. Gaither has be?n ap pointed principal of the Indian school at Chemawa. For several years Miss Gaither has been an instructor at Car lisle. Prior to that phe was for nine years superintendent of the Indian school on the Umatilla reservation. In addition to the 300,000,000 feet of timber already owned, the Wendling Johnson Lumber company has just filed deeds at Eugene for 3700 acres of timber lauds on the Siuslaw river, bearing timber estimated at 150,000, 000 feet. The price paid was $150,000. Keen rivalry over the passage or failure of initiative and referendum measures is shown by the great num ber of affirmative and negative argu ments which have been submitted to be printed In the voters' pamphlet, which will be issued prior to tho No vember election.
