The large Creosotlng plant will be on thi property as will also the large piling and tie yards; the Columbia County Mill is already located on the pre miers and the Railroad of the St Helens Timber Company has its ter mini there. The Philip stone quar ries are also on this land and will continue to operate as there are large deposits of the very highest grade of paving blocks there. With the acquisition of this large body of land the McCormick Inter- hts. represented by several different corporations, have bought over 1200 hcres of land in'and adjoining this city. They have 7 1-2 miles of water front and over 4 miles of it is deep water, deep enough to allow the largest vessels entering the Col umbia River to load and unload rnriio. It was decided to hold the fair at Yankton Grange Hall on Sept 25 and 26. 1912, at which time a premium list will be offered for agricultural and horticultural ex hibits as well as a few premiums for fancy work, domestic science and manual training of school students. The vessel distributed about $1800 in longshore wages while here and in addition to what the crew f pent and supplies for the vessel would bring the totul up to a very neat sum, all of which helps to make St Helens the busiest small City on the River. Monday was red letter day in the shipping history of St Helens. The Ascunsion arrived with part cargo of oil, the Yosemitc cleared w ith a full cargo of lumber fir San Pedro, the Shoshone for San Francisco and the Lord Templetown for Mi lboui ne, Australia. This makes a total ton nage of nearly 6,000 tons. Some shipping for one day. held for the purpose of electing delegates to the State Grange which meets at Roseburg in May. R. N. Lovelace of Rainier, J. W. Armstrong of Goble and G. L. Tarbell of Yankton were chosen to represent Columbia County. The question of good roads will be one of the principal topics dis cussed at the State meeting andj the bills prepared by the Execu tive Committee will be acted on, then placed before the people for ratification or rejection.
