Houlton Items Quite a few potatoe are being brought to market. The heavy snow storm is having its effect on the price of hay and feed of all kinds. Butter is also ad vancing in price. Mrs. L. H. Clark returned from a Portland hospital last Sunday very much improved in health. Manse Chambers has returned from a visit down the river. Court proceedings in St. Helens the Capital of the County, has made things seem rather dull here in the Metropolis. Mr. Ed Bringle a bold ninrod and mighty hunter from the Neha lem Valley captured a cougar this week measuring nine feet from tip to tip. It can be seen and these figures verified at A. J. Kelly's thirst emporium. Altho there are several game war dens sluething around in this county, so far none of Columbia's citizens have been caught with the "goods" on them. The nearly unprecedented fall of snow which we had the first of the week has had the effect of bringing out more kinds of sleds, sleighs and godevlis than one would suppose could be resurected, just enough to show the natives what really jolly times can-be had in a snow country. George Chambers is sporting a new leg this week the product of Mr. Mellinger's skill. h-R S.l." 0:1 WEST DEER ISLAND The Peninsula Lbr. Co. was un able to operate the Sth by the im mense snow.
