The Columbia Iron& Stetd Co. have incororaU'd under the lawaof Oregon and Mr. I. L. Huff. Mr. J. C. Mctirath Bnd Mr. Webb are the director and officer. All are men of long experience in the iron buai nesa, cHpeciallv Mr. Webb who waa for aeven year connected with the Oswego Iron Co., and they have nuflicwmt capital Ixmind them to carry into full operation their plana. Mr. Webb has given out that the plant will Ik- doubled inside of a year. A to the jH-rmanency of the In dustry there can hardly le any question of doubt as tho quality and quantity of the Iron ore in the mines la already established. In the Oswego plant the ore Waa a very low grade, the higheat quality run ning only 18 per cent while the very lowest assay that haa been made on these ore runa 47 per cent. This industry mean much to St. Helena and I lout ton and ia only the beginning of bigger and better thing to follow. The case of Woods vs Wikstrom was culled and a jury secured and sworn to t y the case, w hich is a suit for $10,000 for personal injuries sustained I y Mr. Wood while in the employ of Mr. Wikstrom, during li10. The jury now have the matter in their hands. Judge Webster of Portland is representing the plaintiff and Joseph & Haney the the deftnlant. A Silver Thaw at Portland dur ing the past four days has a caused damage to property of over a quar ter million dollars. In St. Helens we are having a thaw, but not a silver one; just a plain old fashioned thaw with the snow going on"" grad ually and a very comfortable tem perature. The sleighing and skat ing in St. Helens has been very fine for a few days but is apparently all over now. Mrs. T, C. Watts of Reuben sent to the Mist otlice this week a hen egg measuring six and three-fourth inches around the small way ami eight and one-half inches the long way.
