She returned on Monday. ! . Willie, the young son of S. E. Lynch, had his leg broken last Tues day evening:, while playing with an other youngster, Willie and his cousin were wrestling ' and 1n some way the cousin" threw Willie and in falling his leg took a twist and his right leg just above the ankle was broken. He was visiting relatives near Warren at the time and was brought home as soon as possible and is now fast recovering. LOST A child's alligator purse . with a chain attached to it. Ketel had the misfortune of cutting off the end of his thumb Wednesday evening while chopping wood. That will probably teach him a lesson. The American Safety Powder Company have a crew of men at work on the Arthur Velguth place onSauvies Island erecting buildings for use in the manufacture of pow der. The plant when completed will manufacture a brand of powder adapted for the 1i.se in this com munity and will emDlov quite a number of men. Ole Bohman, a prominent farmer from the Warren neighborhood, was attending to business in St. Helena during the week. , "Pug" Ethridge, a brother of "Squeeze" is visiting in the city from the Puget Sound. Howard M. Brownell of Astoria, was in attendance at Court during the week. Oscar Ericksen, the Warren Mer chant, was transacting business in the city Wednesday. T. C. Watts, Mayor of Reuben, j has been attending to his regular duties as bailiff of the Circuit Court during the week. Mrs. C. H. Johns was a Rainfe visitor during the week. The Tuesday evening 500 Club met with Mrs. Edwin Rosa last Tuesday Evening and had a most delightful time. In addition to the members of the Club there were a number of invited gueste and all played the fascinating game until a late hour. Mrs. Marv Georee again carried off the honors. Luncheon was served Angelo Marino, a young Italian boy living with his parents in the MuckJe house on Casneau Street, fell from the sidewalk, where he was playing with an open knife in his hand, and struck his hand on the knife, the blade penetrating clear through the hand. The doctor was called and dressed the wound and no serious consequences are likely to result. Attention is called to the Call for Road meeting of this Koad District published in thi3 issue. This meeting is called for the comes in now and asks us to in. form the people that he has al ready disposed of everything and no sale will be held. J. B. Howell, of Holbrook, was attending to business in St. Hel ens, Thursday. The gasoline ship "Triton" in charge of Captain Ed Rallagh and with a full list of passengers, con sisting of Fred Watkins and Roy Craig, sailed from the Cowlitz Street dock in St. Helens at 11, o'clock Wednesday morning "and made a flying trip to Astoria, covering the distance in 8 hours. Mrs. J. H. Cronkite entertained the Young Married Ladies Club, on Wednesday at her new home in Columbia Park. In the evening the husbands of the young married ladies were invited in and a dinner served after which games were in dulged in for several hours. A de lightful afternoon and evening was spent by the Newlyweds. J. R. Welch and family of Port land, visited at the home of A. A. Galichio, over Sunday. Mrs. W. C. Morley and her dau ghter Elsie were visiting in Portland, Thursday. S. A. Miles came down from Portland Tuesday and spent several days in the city . Fred Adams came up from his farm near Deer Island on Wednes day and spent the day in town. There will be Service next Sunday evening, Dec. 10, at 7:30 in Christ, Episcopal Church, St. Helens. Last Tuesday night the K. of P. Lodge elected officers for the en suing term as follows; W. A. Ketel, C. C; Fred Watkins, V. C; M. E. Miller. P.; F. A. George, K. of R; & S.; E. A. Rotger. M. of F; W. J. Fullerton, M. E; J. W. Clark M. A; C. E. Olson, I. G; C. H. Jorgensen, O. G; E. I. Ballagh, Trustee. Charles H. Gram, Deputy State Labor Commissioner, was in the vicinity Monday inspecting the fac tories, mill etc. J. D. McKay came down from Scappoose, Wednesday and spent the day in the city attending to JJ. legal business. Glee Club Coming St. Helena gets what it goes after. That is when the Peoples Lyceum Committee has charge. The an nouncement folder for the present season said concerning the Willa mette University Glee Club. "If the public will show sufficient apprecia tion by the purchase of a large number of season tickets we shall engage them at once." That chal lenge was met by more than 240 season seat sales and 80 single ad- n. fusions at the first number. In re turn for such an enthusiastic sup port thecommitte at once wired the Glee Club for a date. Original plan contemplated having the Club here some time in March or April but it was found that the only date avail able si Dec. 30 hence they were con tracted for that time. The Glee Club Is certain to be the most popular number on the course. The enthu siasm twenty five or thirty' young college men vented in comic song and cheer is simply irresistible. St Helena Lodge No. 547. St. Helens Lodge No. 547 Frater nat Union of Amercia was regularly instituted at the K. P. Hall last Saturday night with a momltemhip of about 40. The degree team from Equity Lodge No. 5(5 of Portland was present and exemplified the de gree work in a very fine manner. Several other members beside the degree team came with them. After the work of instituting hail Urn concluded the following officers were elected for the ensuing year; M. L. Wilson, Fraternal Master; Mrs. Isbister. Justice; Miss Leo Wilkins, Truth; Mrs. Grant. Mercy; Mrs. Harris, Sec.; Thos. Needham, Tress. Mrs. Frisk, Guide; Merle Wilson, Guard; Geo. Adams, Sentinel. Af ter adjourment lunch was spread and a general good time was had until about 1 o'clock A. M. This lodge starts out under very favor able auspices; a membership of nearly forty, both ladies and gentle men, and from the interest dis played on the first meeting, will soon become the leading order in the city. 41 Mr. and Mrs. J.
