Aa actor In a small company was
unable one night to get accommoda
tion at the only hotel in an English
town, It la said, because Its proprietor,
a remarkably slow going person foi
such a place, recognized him aa tbe
villain In the melodrama who bad
token a cash box. set fire to a bouse.

But something like this really did
happen to Oeorge Scott, manager of
the Alhambra In London. In hi
younger days Mr. Scott was a stage
villain of the deepest dye, and one of
his favorite parts was that of the
wicked Levison In "East Lynne."

for wishing to change his lodging
and. knocking at the door of a house

good lady who opened It with a shriek
