BASEBALL BITS.
The bovs showed the same old class
again.
The Brooklyn boys are ball p'.ayersand
play a good, clean game. Hope they
come back.
Phil Nadeau, the big leaguer, will
probably play at this place for the rest
of this season. He is a fast shortstop
a good hitter, and would make a good
captain for the bois, as he knows the
game from A to Z.
Vit have the best infield in the country
Austin at first, Laws at secoud, Brakke
at third and N'adeau at short make i
combination that is hard to beat.
Austin's homer looked good. He was
robbed of another smash that would
have ordinarily went into the bit column.
an H. Lafferty was there with the
hard hitting. When it comes to plant-
ing them down in the center field fence
corner Jack is right there.
Owing to the bad weather the crowd
was very small, but there will be a diff
erent story to tell next Sunday. With a
team playing the kind of ball that the
locals will put np this year tney should
and will have the support of the whole
town.
Kalama's base ball team went np to
St. Helens last Sunday and did np the
bunch of ball totsert, styled the St.
Helens team. When the boys left Kalania
early in the mornir.g we had hope that
St. Helena would at least furnish amuse
ment for our team, but it is no nse. St.
Helens can't play ball. If they would
go up to Scappoose and Warren and prac
tice up a little they might get io time so
ey could play a fair game, but even
then they would not stand a ghost of a
show with the "Invincibles" of Kalama.
Kalama News. Aint it awful? It looks
as if we will have to play them some time
when Nick Williams' braves are up
north nnd out of reach. There is noth
ing in Kalama that is "invincible" ex
cept Tom Cooper's booze.
