The grade iu District No. 13 is perfectly satisfactory to roe and I believs to the majority of the taxpayers. W. K.TICHKNOR. Commissioner, We print above in full a recent letter from Wm. M. Rose and the aniwer from W. K. Tichenor. We are alwan pleased to publish communication of thli kind when signed by reliable people such a Mr. Rose, and we think that Mr. Rote will be iatified from Mr Tichenor'i aniwer that the court hat taken every care to get full value for the tax payers on the road work under coo ttrnction. It is a good idea however, to clear such matter up, and the Mist will aid any time poaafble. ADDITIONAL LOCAL County Official Paper THE MANAGING COMMUTE Dr. Emmet Drake, of Portland, has been selected by the Manag ing Committee of the Multnomah County Central Committee as their candidate for the office of joint Senator for Multnomah, Co lumbia and Clackamas County, to take the place of Louis G. Clarke, who was wise enough to decline the empty honor. None of the members of the Managing Committee from Columbia or Clackamas counties were present, but it was understood that they will acquiesce in the works of the Portland bosses especially as it would do them r.o good to kick. The Managing Committee is an outgrowth of the Portland As sembly and ha3 just as much right as that body had to speak for the Republican voters of Co lombia County and that is none at all. This particular Drake will be duck soup for Dan Malarkey, the An Li-Assembly JNo. 1 candidate for the joint senatorship. Dr. Drake has the advantage of Malarkey in one point only, and that is that his name, in alphabetical order, will come first on the Australian ballot, but when the votes are counted he will be down in the x y z class. This means that he represents the East instead of the West, and the great manufacturing corporate and financial interests instead of the people. There are three candidates for the nomi nation opposed to Mr. Ellis, namely Sheppard, Lafferty, and Reed. If the opposition vote is divided between them Mr. Ellis will win, but if it can be centered upon one of them he will be de feated. All of them are Portland men.
