The people of the city are devotng their attention to entertulnlng out-of-town vlaitora. and are participating in the week'a festivities to the fullest extent. As usual, the parades and the competitive rose show are the big event, attract ing tbe moat attention. Many people of the Northwest visit Portland during the Rose Festival If at no other time during the year and to theso, the tre mendous growth of the city during the past .year la more Impreselve, even than the featival paa;nanta. The clty'a prouresa merely re Meet a the general proaperity of the whole Pacific North west, and ia Increaalng In population and wealth because the same is true of the tributary country, Uncertainty aurroundlng the future of the annual fair and livestock show on tho Country Club grounds near this city waa dispelled durliiK the week when stockholders decided to continue the organization. The uaunl exposition will be held this fall. The Portland Fair & Livestock Association has not yet become a money makev, and some doubted that the annual show and racing meet would be continued. A special meeting of stockholders was held to consider this question, aud It was decided to not ullow the project to lapse. Dig plans are being made for the coming show thia full, and It la the intention of those behind tbe affair to make It aa big an attraction for that season of the year aa the Rose Festi val la in the aprlng. It will certainly be a sreat benefit for tbe whole North west to have the livestock show con tinued annually. -Now through Northern Pacific ser vice between Portland and Chicago ha been established via the North Bank road, the new train having a running time of 72 hourH, the same as tho North Coast Limited.
