earthquakes in ten minutes, the first
at S.iJ this afternoon, caused the
wildest excitement in this city, the
panic-stricken people rushing into the
streets in the belief th:it the buildinii
were about to topple over. Struc
tures tremhled violently, t'laster came
down, dishes were thrown to the
floor, the main school bunding, a two
story brick, was badly cracked, and
the ground rent with seams from one
to three inches wide.
Two more shocks were experienced

ing into the streets. The first of the
tremors was felt yesterday afternoon
