Stevens and Cunt Lynch, road viewers, were over on Tuesday surveying and viewing the proposed new road. called the Itullns road, on the upper Ne halcm. : John Pringle I closing up s deal wlrerriu the Sage I.and and Improve ment Co,, of Albany, N. Y sell to a S) ud icate, of which th Chapman l.um- ner Co., who are building the logging road out this way from Scappoow are a part. Il,:m acre of the very la-st tiuiljer land in the Nehalcm. The deal involves consideration ol about f I'Ni.UW), and is the largest ever made of land in this part of the country, Tbe land lie around Vernonia, north, east, and south, from Ouk Ranch creek to Wolfe creek. The railroad situation is getting to be rather dubious a to the down the river route, which i the one our people are interested in moat. We fear that we h ive let the golden opportunity of se curing a railroad to Vernonia lip out of our grasp. While we have been busy w ills other thing and letting the sub scription drag along and the contract guaranteeing the road the free ngut-ot-way, the people of Titlam.wk county have been ud and doing. They are not only offering the road the free right-of-way but a bonus beside. Not only this but the engineering corps of tlie road have lieen pushing the survey on the Salmonljerry route to Tillamook, and re port that they find an easy grade and have located the road to the summit. Our people who hsvc lieen saying that we are going to get tbe road anyway, are going to wake up some fine morning, find that the construction force arc al work on the line going west from the iO-mile station instead of on the line down the river. We make iliesc statement slU-r a carelul investigation of facts. Now what are we to do in the matter? Someol the com mittee arc gelling ahustleon themselves. Ul our jieople respond right liberally and get the suliscription up to the required amount. Let the contract then 1 signed and presented to the company guarantee ing the right-of-way. This will oe iui tilling our part ol the obligation. Then if the road doe not come the blame wil not rest with us. ..1,.1 .1, rii.it like the idea of loa" Ing the greater portiou of it grain trade, hut its business men know that is just .l.t .ill luimien il lim Hill liiM to I Frankfort on the lower Columbia.
