II. Uultnaii and wife to Portlaml, St. Helens loses some of its most highly esteemed citizens, who have liecn identified with Its interests many years. Senator Mcflridc une to Colum hit City in 1N07, and his rcconl as a pub lic man dates from his election to the legislature from this county. His personal popularity among his home people wus the basis of his political fortune and wherever he may reside in the future and whatever that luture may have in store for him, the friendship that have been built tip during these muny year will endure to the end. He still lm very huge finan cial interests in the county, and while his residence will lie elsewhere, we doubtless will see him among us frequently. No less regretted will lie Mr. Dolman, who has resided with us since 1872, and whose womanly graces, tact, and true goodness have endeared her to all who were capable of appreciating hcrcharactcr.Of late years Mrs. Dolman has lived a very quiet life, but the writer remembers when the old home that was destroyed In our big fire was the headquarter for a refined socia bility that exercised a beneficial influence tiKu this community. There wa no place In Oregon where the stranger with in our gates wa made to feel more per fectly at home than in the house where Mrs. Dolman and Mrs. Giltncr held their gentle rule. Mr. Dolman was a later comer. His first appearance here was in 1KK1. but he soon alter started on a visit to Kurope and did not engage in business here until lHH.r. He made a success ol his business and finally transferred it to M. C. Cray. It seem that damage uiU are to be Instituted a a result of the recent fire in this county, according to an article in the Kvening Telegram, which says: J. M. Grcwell, of Warren, who is In Portland today, claims property lielonging to him wus damaged and says he knows the ori gin of the fire. B. F. Giltner, a resident of thin city, owns property near Deer Island and claims that he can trace down the origin of a recent fire that caused hiui losses. Both men may sue. Mr. Giltner say slashings were burned on the Pat Hughe place, which adjoin the Giltner property, end that the fire spread, getting beyond control. Not only was his prop erty damaged, but Mr. Giltner declares that other farms suffered as a result of the bhue. Mr. Grewell lay hi losses at the A.. i ,1,,. Tnrlicll neovlc. About a week ago, he says, they burned slashings of the mouth. and the fire was communicated to adjoin ing property with the result that the los is considerable. Grewell losi . wood, Lit brother, T.
