money of the county. That law certainly

the Legislature. It is altogether too

The Columbia River Fishermen's
Protective Union, at a meeting last
Monday evening, fixed the opening
price for salmon on the Columbia
river fur the coming season at S cents
per-pound for fish weighing less than
25 pounds, and 7 cents per pound for
ihnse weighing 25 pounds or over.
This is the same price as last season
for the small fish, but is an advance
of I cent for the large ones. The
meeting also appointed a committee
of nine to investigate and report at
the next meeting on the question of
initiating with the Fishermen's Pro
tective Union of the Pacific Coast and
Alaska.

special Sunday dinner at the Oriental

approved before, the clerk is entitled to

the claims for teachers' salaries, etc.,
have not been paid, except by warrant. I

Frank, the 13-year-old too of Mr. and
Mr. E. H. Flagg, while in the act of
climbing upon the lockers in the dressing

of the locker over upon him and sustain- j
ed painful injurie. to his physiognomy,
but after being patched up by the doctor j
and dentist he was all right and will auf-

St. Helens, and the only reason it does
not go ahead is because it has been bot
tled up by the bad management of those
who controlled its business interests.

have disposed of their ranches and will

fellow will be who receive the nominal- j
tion for County Judge. The person
prominently spoken of who will be most
likely to receive the nomination are Nor
man Merrill, J. B. Ooanand K, K. Quick.
Many objection are being urged against
all three. Especially by the Prohibition
ist, who say that Norman Merrill signed
a petition for a liquor license, Doan was
instrumental in having a liqnor license
issued to a saloon keeper at Rainier, and
that Quick did take a drink of whiskey
several years ago. We have leen well
acqulnted wtth all three of the said gen
tlemen for a long time, and know each

one of them personally and from
knowledge of their qualifications we be-
lieve the office will be filled by an honor-
able, qualified and competent man if
either one of the three receive the nomi
nation and election.
