Fine Apples at Scappoose.
For a good many years Mr. Asa Hola
day, the nurseryman of Scappoose, Ore
gon, has been demonstrating by exhibits
at meetings of the Oregon State Fair the
fact that Scappoose can grow apples good
enongh for anybody. In addition to bit
nursery bu.-inejs Mr. Hoi ail nv baa an
orchard. It is not a very large one hot
he generally has a few carlo.) of fruit
to sell and he always gets high prices.
A few days sgo Commisxiotier Newell
visited in an official iv Mr. Holadav's
nursery and orchard. At tbe time Mr.
Holoday was harvesting the crop from a
two-acre tract of Northern Spv apples.
He had sold the apples for $1.25 per box,
Mr. Newell said he had never seen such
a sight in the nay of apples before.
There were at least 1,100 boxes on the
two acres and the largest and finest Nor
thern Spies he had ever seen. He made
a most careful search and failed to find
a single apple which showed a worm or
any trace of a worm. There are more
