NEXT CONGRESS REPUBLICAN MoKinley Carrie Xsw Tork by 100,000 Bl( Landslide la Illiaels-Maryland, WmI Virginia and Nebraska la She Sapablloaa Column. New York, Nov. 7. It beoama evi dent at a very early hour this evening that the flection of MoKinler and Roosevelt was assured, Tbe president carried tbe state of New York by 150, 000 plurality. As the night progiessed, it only served to confirm this judgment, but the returns from Illinois revealed a Ilka oondition. The Repulbican plu rality of 1898 was greatly reduoed, but it was still far, too large to be over come.'. ' On tbe other band, the returns from Indiana, Michigan, tbe two Dakotas, Utah and Wyoming, as well as Nebras ka, teem to Indicate steady Republi can gains over 1896. Delaware, Mary land and West Virginia, have given de cided Republican pluralities. Tbe count in several of tbe far West ern states was naturally to delayed as to give little indication ci the opinion there, hut tbey bad ceased to have determining effect, and before 10 o'clock the Democratlo leader bad given up the contest and it was an nounced that Mr. Bryan had gone to bed and was sound asleep. -The whole story was easily and briefly told. Tbe Republican ti?ket would have a larger electoral vote than four years ago, but in the larger states of tbe East and Middle West tbe plu ralities of 1898 bad been greatly re duced. Masachosett bad fallen from 174,000 ti) 60.000 New York, 268,000 to l&O.OOt, and Illinois from 142,000 to lOO.OOdor leas. Tbe 57ih congress seems to be Re publican by a substantial working ma jority. Bryan carried all the Southern states, as nsual, along with Colorado, Idaho, Montana and one doubtful state, Kentucky, by a small plurality. Doubtful states which went for Mo Kiuley are Maryland, West Virginia and Indiana, all by small pluralities. Mc Kin ley's pnrality in Ohio is 70, 000, in Michigan 80,000. Nebraska, Bryan's home state, went Republican by a small plurality. The New England states and Penn sylvania are, as usual, in the Republi can column. ! McKinleys plurality In Iowa is 100. 000, Kansas 80,000, Minnesota 80, 000. - THE COAST. California, Oregon and Washington all went for McKinley. The contest waa close in California, but it is expected tbe state will give MoKinley 10,000 plurality. Oregon gives MoKinley 14,000 plu rality, but few counties going Demo cratic. Washington goes for McKinley by a small plurality, probably 6.000, but Ibe state tioket is much in doubt, with the probability that Rogers, Democrat, is elected governor. Tbe legislature will be Republican. Tbe electoral vote will probably be as follows: MoKinley, S92; Bryan. 156. DliMtroua to Sheen and Goats. Monroe, Or., Nov. 7. Ohio Unofficial returns received from 83 out of tbe 88 counties warrant the claim of 70,000 for MoKinley, and we elect 17 of tbe 27 members of con grers, a gain of two Democrats. Pennsylvania Complete returns give McKinley 387,733 plurality. Rnode Island Offioial returns give McKinley. 83.821 Biyan, 19,947. Both congressmen Republican. ROGERS DEFEATS FRISK BY 1300 Defeats frlnk for Ooieraor sf Wash ington -Plurality la OriU , is ruins- up. Portland, Nov. 9. Only one doubt ful state remains Kentucky. Tbe Democrats claim tbe state for Bryan by 7,800; the Republicans also claim the state, but give no figures. It will require tbe official count to determine tbe result. McKinley carried Nebraska by at least 2,000. Tbe legislators is in doubt, and will not be determined un til tbe official count of Douglas county is in. The Republicans are figuring on a safe majority on joint ballot. Otber states are practically a first reported. Tbe electoral vote follows: 1900. 1896. MoKinley....... .......292 271 Bryan.,... 155 176 In Washington. Seattle, Wash., Nor. 10. The majority for Preaident MoKinley in the state of Washington will be between 11,000 and 12,000, and John R.Rog ers, Democrat, for governor, will have something like 1,300 over Frink, hia Republican opponent. The average majority of tbe two Repblioan candi dates for congress, Jones and Cushman, will be 9,000 or more, and tbe legisla ture will be heavily Republican. All the state Repnblican ticket, exoept Frink, is elected by large pluralities. All these things were made clear by yesterday's leturns. Every county in Western Washington has been beard from and tbe only two counties in East ern Washington about which there is any uncertainty are Chelan and Oka nogan. With these, scattering returns show that the only question . ia to the size of tbe Democratic pluralities. Later returns are more likely to in crease than deorease Rogers' plurality. McKinley bas carried 26 counties and Bryan 10; Frink 18 counties and Rogera 17. with one (Mason) a tie. Ia Still Piling Pp. Portland. Or., Nov. 10. McKiuley't purality in Oregon is still piling up. Owing to an error in a former footing, his lead this morning is made to ap pear 600 less than yesterday, whereas it should be about 100 more. Reports continue to pour in that former Bryan strongholds have either gone for Mo Kinley or greatly decreased the Nebras kan's majority in 18U6. For example, Ave piecincts in Malheur county that gave Bryan a plurality of 196 in 1896, this year gave him but 44. Malbeur county, which baa all along been con ceded to the Democrats, ia now thought to have gone Republican by a majority of 50 to 100. This leaves but three counties in the state which bave given pluralities for Bryan and theii combined vote is only 265. Fifty-six precinots reported yester day, making a total of 696 out of 769. MoKinley'a vote- to date is 43,195; Bryan, 29,676 The latest estimate of McKinleys' plurality in the state ia 18.907. arioni strlka at Tampa. Chicago, Nov. 10. This part of tbe wreck caught fixe once, but tbe flames were quickly extinguished-. It is stated tbat the wreck wat due to a misinteipretation of orders on the part of Engineer Drennan of the extra, Superintendent L. R.
