Threatened to Kill John W
Cline, of Scapitoose, waa arrested by
i;onaiabie Docker last Tuesday on a
warrant aworn out by Cline's wife,
charging aim with having threatened
to commit murder. From all accounts
the case is so iudecsnt in its charac

for trial. Th Clines have passed the
meridian of life and have a number
of grandchildren, but after living to
gether all these years ft seems now
that chaos reigns supreme. Cline was
lucked up by the constable to await
lii preliminary hearing, which is dock

Balmoh Run Rkmarkablb. A sal

in the lower river so far this seeeon
has been remarkable, and that more
flail have been parked than at this
time for many years. The fish sver
vge very large much larger than last
year. Last season those who adopted
a smaller mesb than usual made
money by it, but thsy are losing this
year, and those who retained the old
s'im are making by it. There has not
been much packing done at the Cas
cades, and at The Dalles practically
nothing. The bluebacks have not
come to the front yet, but are looked
for any day. They vary considerably
in the time of their arrival.
Locks Omen by Christmas. The

Tub Medical Law. The phyaiolans
of the Oregon medical board are not
finding always the smooth sailing they
anticipated, says the Sun. The first
case in which they failed was that of
Mrs. L. M, Slooum, who was arrested
in Newberg, by order of the board, for
polling proprietary medicines. The
trial took piece at Newberg, and she
was represented by an attorney, and
with permission of the court Mrs.
Abigail Soott Dumway addressed the
jury in behalf of the right of Mrs.
Moeum to dispose of the medicines,
tier address completely shattered the
argument of the prosecution and the
jury acquitted the defendant, after a
few minutes consultation. The an
nouncement of the verdict crested
considerable rejoicing among the
women who were to be affeoted by the
decision in the oase.
Only Six Years Old. The little
six-year-old son of O. D. Garrison, of
ftcappoose, killed a large deer one day
laat week. It waa this way; Mr. Gar
rison, accompanied by a friend, went
out with their dogs, hunting. The
flogs started the deer and gave chase
until the animal, by being closely per
sued, was obliged to "take water," and
plunged Into Scappoose creek olosely
followed by the dogs until they readied
b point near the Garrison residence,
where it stopped and held the dogs at
hay. The boy, hearing the barking
of the dogs, gathered his father's rifle
and went over to the bank of theoreek
and taking a "rest" over a log, fired.
The deer fell. When the men returned
it was found that the ball had entered
the forehead in the exact spot to cause
instant death. It it said the boy wss
not nearly so much excited -over the
vent as his pufeqta were.
