Howard, the enterprising saw mill man, of Yatikeetown, now has the county roud planked all the way from his mill to the railroad at Milton, and he Is now able to convey all the prod ucts of his mill to the market at all times and at small expense. The com mendable ent(trprie displayed by Mr. Howiird In this mnttor lias placed the entire public under obligations to him and it is a fuct to reret that we have not more such public-spirited men in this county. Mr. Howard has fully demonstrated the fact that planked roads are the ebcupest practicable roads this county cau build, and we are willing to riak our .reputation aa a prophet and hazard the positive pre diction that if this county ever has a Dublin hlghwuy that can be dignified with the name of roud, It Will be con structed with plank. We must not be understood to say that mccadam roads are not the best, for they most cer tainly are, but the great expense in volved in making them shuts out ill argument In their favor. The count ies millions of feet of lumber stand ing on the lands of this county could not possibly be put to a better use than employing some of it iu the con struction of planked roads. Creamory Wanted. Clutskanle ia in the market for a creamery. The peculiar inducements offered by that place for au enterprise of this kind are superior to any on the Columbia liver, and it ia a matter for surprise that a creamery haa not been established there before this. A large territory adjacent to Clatskaolo is es pecially adapted to dairying, aud the urge number of farmers in that neigh borhood are prepared to furnish all the milk neceasary for a large butter-making establishment. As a further in ducement to thoae wishing to embark in such an enterprise a deairable loca tion will be donated by W. II. Con yers, Clatskenie's moat enterprising citixen, and it ia an excellent site for a buainess of this kind. A creamery and cheese factory, such aa could be operated there would be the medium for constantly circulating a large amount of money among the farmers of that section, aa it would furnish a market for a product out of which they are now unable to realise little or no bone tit. A regular line of (learners out of Clatskanie offers reliable trans portation facilities to all markela for the producta of a creamery, and a ready market at good prices can be relied upon at all tunes. Per Contempt of Court. An amuMing incident occured in Judge McBride's court Monday afternoon. A prosy uninteresting case was being ground out in which there was not enough excitement to keep tha lawyers interested, much less the listeners. An individual in one of the seat 8 way back by the door had evidently spent the previous night with Bacchus end poker lor ne soon dropitcd asleep and in his dreams im agined lumsolf still in the game anu that he held four aces against the other fellow's king full. The situation waa aulllcit ntly interesting to excite even a dreamer and when the fellow ith the full hand, disregarding the rules of poker, raked in the pot, the dreamer could control bis over wrouichl feeliues no longer and raid ing to bis feel be called out in a loud voice : "Hold on there, I suess a king full dou't boat four acca." Just at that moment Mr. llolman was dis coursing learnedly npoil theslnlulneas of dt' ne-tising silver, and hia honoi, m ittiikimr Ilia interruption lor a con tempt of court, committed the fellow to the county jail for a week.
