With numerous small streams to bridge,
besides being uiotly covered with
heavy timber, makes road building
very expensive, and, secondly; tUe

roads are legalised and entitled to be

The practice of legalising to many
publio roads ia sparsely settled com
munities, n oeneve has been carried
to tueegtreme. While it is true that
the best possible modes for getting to
market from the interior, and acom-

to endeavor to open a road to alrungt

when the general road fuud will not

fceen very wisely suggested of build
ing trunfc lines of road through the
tnost densely populated portions of
tue county and on the main and di
rect route to market; these roads to
be put into first-class condition and
continually kept In good repair, even
at the expense of the less important
ones. For instance, commence at
Scsppoosa and build down the Colum
bia river to Clatskanie, by way of St.
Helens, Deer Island and Rainier: from
Clatskanie to Vernonia, by wav of
Mist and Pittsburg, and thence back
to ot. Helens, thus encircling tbe en

ImportaJBt La ad Office Oectaieaa.
Oekoom City, March 30. Yesterday
the Oregon City land office rendered
an important decision affecting the
title to more than 100 acres of land in
or bordering on the town site of Bain
ler. The title of the case is Sylss B
Plympton, et si., donation land claim
ants and Protestants, vs. John C. Farr.
et si., homestead claimants. It was
three donation land claimants against
three subsequent homestead entrvmen
and the decission is that the former
have their rights to the . land. These
bad settled on the claims and made
proof to one rear's residence noon
tnem in laoo-o. Isaac Voorhees and
John 8. Hawkins, co-protestante with
Plympton, are dead, but their heirs are
now in a fair way to obtain title to the
claims. The donation land claimants
seemed to have laid the ground for
trouble when they paid for their land
before it was surveyed by the govern
ment. This gave rise to conflcitine
government charts, as attempts were
made to square the claims with the
surveyssubsequently made. The home
steaders have thirty days in which to
file an appeal.
