Our roads are slill In a deplorable condi
tion and some Immediate acUon should be
taken to Improve them, either by planking
or otherwise, as the law gives the right to
Ueue bonds for the construction of roads,
payable ten or twenty years bfciies. Why
not have a plank road from Rainier to
C'latnkaiiie, by way of Helena f This could
be dons st a moderate cost and would be of
great benefit to the emirs lower end of the
county. A good road that could be ueed
all tbs year round would greatly Increase
the value of proierty, besides more tnen
compensating for ths coot of construction
In ths way of increased business and com
fort w would enjoy compared with our
present, almost luipassnble, roads. Cer
tainly every properlv-owner along the line
would be willing tJ pay his small tax to
wards building such a public highway, for
ba will readily see It Is building up bis own
Interests fsster tban could possibly be done
Ithout It. Where we now can haul our
produce to market not more than four
months in the year, at least, we couia tnen
haul bay. pots oes, lumber and shingles to
market, and btlng In other necesasries of
life st any tltna in the year when the mar
ket beat suited. Let us hope "the ball will
bs kept rolling" until a road has been built
that could be used at all times of me year.
Rev. Moore preached to a large audience
at Helena hall last Hunday, and hereafter
will hold services regularly on the second
ml fourth Sunday ot each month at this

Mr. J. A. Atkins made a business trip to

Mr. and Mrs. J. Winchester returned

and surveyor heretofore appointed to
view out and turvey said road, hud
failed to meet at the time and place

five having elapsed since said appoint
ed time of meeting of said viewers and
