The misrepresentation which called forth the resolution of the State Board of Health of New York, printed above, is in keep ingr with the old tactics of the Royal Baking Powder Company. First it manufactured a Government Chemist out of whole cloth, and the garment was cut and made to fit Dr. Henry A. Mott, and later poor Dr. Love. Brought to a turn in this, the same company sought to use the New York Board of Health. It did not hesitate to send broadcast, the statement that the New York Board of Health had endorsed and recommended the Royal (Ammonia) Baking Powder. It did not take the New York Board of Health very 2ong to assert itself on this misrepresentation as will be seen from the foregoing letter, These questionable methods of advertising have never been resorted to by the Price Baking Powder Ca The old fashioned honest way of making a pure Cream Tartar Baking Powder is much to be preferred. No ammonia to conceal, nothing to bolster up. The success of Dr. Price proves honesty is the best business policy in food products, as in everything else. A woman tells of a curious case of apparent spontaneous combustion which way perhaps explain some al leged incendiarisms or inexplicably started fires. Coming home late from the theater one evening she left her bonnet, which waa damp from a slight rain, on the parlor table, and forgot to remove it the next morning. Toward noon, passing through the hall, her at tention was attracted by a smell of smoke, very faint, but still distinct, and in the parlor, after .some search, its origin was found io a tiny curl issu ing from the center of a feather trimmed bonnet. An attempt to snatch the article from the table resulted In a sudden transformation, as it fell to ashes be neath her fingers. Then it was dis covered that the bonnet had been lying on ia table upon which was also a sterioscope, and through its lens the morning sun had shone so ardently as to develop a burning glass, which in its tnrn had created a spark that had rnn hither and thither over the bonnet until it was completely destroyed. Her Point of View in New York Times. A distinction Often Made. ' "People do draw the most ridiculous distinctions sometimes," said the man from the suburbs, who always smoked a pipe on the train. "For instance, if a friend asks you for a postage stamp and you give it to him, he becomes in dignant when you demur to accepting the two cents in payment He assumes a highly virtuous air, and insists that he is always very careful in small mat ters, so you take tiie two cents. Yet, oiler him a cigar or ask h;in to take a drink with you, and he exhibits no scruples, but accepts at once. It is en tirely possible, too, that if he borrowed Qve dollars from you he would forget to return it, but when it is a question of two cents he Is punctilious to a de gree." New York Tribune. But it waa no use. The woman across the aisle kept on staring in the most provoking way in the world all the way up to Fiftieth street, where she got up and left the train. "Did you notice heri" said the dis tressed woman; "she kept staring at me for two miles." "Shedidr" "Yes, she did. My hat Is on straight, Isn't itr "I think so." "And there is no soot on the end of my nose?" . "Ho," he gasped faintly. They both thought a long time. "I'll tell you," he said gleefully. "It must have been this: She noticed that you wear a pair ol 1,000 diamonds in your ears, and dl course with rings to match. The sole Importance of the sine cure at the present day consists in the foot that its acceptance enables a mem ber of the house of commons to resign hla seat on the plea that he holds a place of honor and profit under the crown. This appropriation of the post only dates from the eighteenth century, and its intrinsic legality has been called in question, but the cistom is now completely legitimated by a long lino of precedents. Presently, ns wo Journeyed, a little line of sand hills cnine Into view. They formed the Blaokfoot cemetery. Wa saw the "tepres of the dead" here and there on the knolls, sumo new and per fect, some old and weather stained, some showing mere tatters of cotton flapping on the polos, and still others only skeleton tents, the poles remain ing and the cotton covering gone com pletely. We knew what we would see If we looked Into those "dead tepees" (being careful to approach from the windward side). We would see, lying on the ground or raised upon a frame work, a bundle that would be narrow at top and bottom and broad In the middle an Indian's body rolled up lu a sheet of cotton, with his best bead work and blanket and gun In the bun dle, and near by a kettle and some dried meat and oommeol against his fueling hungry on his long journey to the hereafter. As one or two of tho tepees were new, wo expected to see some family In mourning and, sure enough, when we reached the grout sheer sided gutter which the Bow river has dug for Its course through the plains, we halted our horse and looked down upon a lonely trio of teiiees, with children playing around tlieiu and women squatted by the entrances. Three fam ilies hud lost mombep and were seques tered thero In abject surrender to grief. Those tents of thomouruers were at our feet as we rode southward, down In the river gully, whero the grass waa green and the trees were leafy and thriving, but when we turned our faces to tho eastward, where the river bent around a great promontory, what a sight met our gnze! There stood a city of tepees, hundreds of them, showing white and yellow and brown and red against the clear blue sky. A silent and lifeless city It seemed, for we were too far off to see the people or to bear their noises. Tho great huddle of little pyramids rose abruptly from the level bare grass against tlio flawless sky, not like one of those melancholy now tree less towns that white men are building all over the prairie, but rather like a mosquito fleet Ix-culmed lit sea. There are two camps an the Black- foot reserve, the North Camp and the South Camp, nud this town of tents was between the two, and was composed of miore household than both together; for this was the assembling for the sun dance, their greatest religious festival, and hither had come Bloods, Piegalis and Sards ns well ns I! lack feet Only the mourners kept away, for here were to be echoed the grcuteat ceremonials of that dead past wherein lives dedi cated to war and to the chase Inspired the deeds of valor which each would now celebrate anew in speech or sung. And at each recurrence of this won derful holiday time every night wa spent in feasting, gorging and gam bling. In short. It was the great event of the Indian year, uud so it remains. Even now you may see the young braves undergo the torture, and If you may not see the faithless wives disci plined you may at least perceive a score who have been, as well as hear the mighty boasting and witness the dancing, gniulug and carousing.
