Wilson Ackley, one of our last
last y-'ur sophomores, went to Port-
laud Hits winter to continue nis sin
dies at the Jefferson high. He came
home lust Saturday Quite ill with
rheumatism.
Miss Strntu. Miss Scales, Miss Tip
ton accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Nib-
lock to Portland Tuesday night to
spend the evening with Mr. Brainerd
ar.d enjoyed a musical evening.
The Maccabees had a very festive
affair last Thursday after lodge meet
ing at the home of Mrs. Charles Sand
Strom. Mrs. Arch Duncan, Mrs.
Charles Wikstrom assisted Mrs. Sand-
strom with the affair, which was giv
en in honor of Mrs. Rob. McKay, who
was celebrating a birthday anniver
sary. Mrs. B. Scott who just re
turned from the east, Mrs. Jim
Leonard, who leaves shortly for Cal
ifornia, and Mrs. Frank ikstrom, as
this was her first attendance for a
year. The table was decorated in the
lodge colors, red, white, and mack.
A birthday cake with candles was un
attractive feature. Mrs. McKay laugu
ingly declared they had 80 candles
oa It. The surprise was much ap-
I-reciated and enjoyed by those pres
ent.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Adams; Mr
and Mrs. Ferris Simon and Mr. and
Mrs Skinner were properly serenad
ed last Friday evening by their neigh
bor &nd friends

Tho Christian Endeavor union of
Columbia and Clatsop counties, will
hold a convention here Oct. :3rd and
24th. The meetings w.': be Satur
day evening, Sunday af.eruoon. Sun
day evening. State workers and lo
cal leaders will be here with lots of
rep and enthusiasm. Come and en
joy the music and speaking. Engage

Mr. Leonard is taking a three
months vacation. He and Mrs. Leon,
ard will spend the winter in Califor
nia and other points.
The finishing touches are being ad
ded to the electric alarm system in
the vault at our bank this week.
When completed the alarm will be
tried out. As the report can he heard
for two and one-halt miles, don't
think it Is an air raid or a Gideon
army invading Scappoose, but just
one of our modern improvements"
A real estate deal of interest this
week was the sale of Ir. Blatchford's
hill ranch to Louie Furrer. Louie,
who is a real woodsman, plans get
ting off several hundred cords of
wood this winter.
Mr. Winston, sperintenden: of the
Sccppoose Lumber company, is oc
' cupying the Sholtz cottage vacated
by the Hrfstetler family.
Mr. 'and Mrs. W. E. Reed came
from Portland Sunday In time to en

Miss Irene Heman returned home
Saturday after spending a couple ot
weeks at Beaver Valley.
Chas. Rice visited his daughter,
Mrs. Geo. Kyser, a few days last

Andrew Heman made a trip to
Beaver Valley Tuesday.
Mrs. R. E. Stratton was the week
end guest of Mrs. Warren Young.
Mr. i and Mrs. Geo. Kyser spent
Wednesday at Marshfield visiting Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Johnson.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Langfeldt
went to Ridgefield to spend the week
end, visiting the latter's parents.

Mrs. R. N. Lovelace fell while
carrying her year old baby, hurting
the baby quite badly.
The Cedar Grove grange met In
regular session last Saturday. The
meetings get more interesting all the

Warren Young has a new wood
saw. The neighbors will have lots
