Father Clancy is away this week at Columbia University attending the Anual Hetreat of the Catholic clergy of Oregon. Plans are in preparation for a Catholic mission church at Berekn felt. Oregon. It will likely be built before winter sets in. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Holt and Miss hakelfcrd int Sunday on the beach at Seaside, going down Satur day evening on the boat. Father Clancy has be-n in Portland several days this week buying lum ber and material for the new church which the Catholics w ill build. Ed. Jones took Mrs. Jon?s :nd the children up to McMinnville Monday evening where they will remr.ln for Bomo diiya visiting Mrs. Jones' mo ther. O. A. Willis will soon begin the erection of a neat bungalow on his property near the Adventist church. Tlie cost of the structure will be about $2000. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Willis. Mrs. McQueen and daughters Mamie and liabe, returned Monday after a pleas ant outing of several days, which was spent on the Kaluma river, fishing and hunting. Col. Parke was down from Port land Friday and spent the week end In St. Helens. The colonel has prepa rations under way for a day of fes tivity in the future, of which iufot niation will be forthcoming luter. Mr. and Mrs. John Klinglo and son, George, spent Saturday and Sunday In St. Helens as the guests of Sir. and Mrs. Robert Dixon. The Kltngies are former old resident. of Columbia county but are now living near Ore gon City. Elbert Bede and Mrs. Bedo passed through St. Helens Sunday night en route to their home in Cottage Grove after having spent several days in Astoria at the State Editorial conven. tion. Mr. Bede is editor of the Cot tage Grove Sentinel and is one of the state's ablest newspaper men. Charles Wallis and son Lewis were in St. Helens Tuesday. Mr. Wallis said that the school board of District 45, the "Happy Hollow" school, haa not yet secured a teacher; but the board would employ one this week. School will start September 1st. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Colt, accom panied by the little Colts, motored down to Delena Sunday to attend the Moose picnic, given by the spreua antlered herd cf Rainier. They re port a day of pleasure 3pent in that favored locality of Columbia county. New stock, cheap prices, big vari ety at the "Elite."
