August Nordin, a progressive farm er of the Warren section, was a business visitor in the county seat Friday. J. H. Thatcher Is taking this week off'from business cares and Is enjoy ing the roll of the sad sea waves at Seaside. Dr. Thompson's services make r correct glasses a certainty. Rutherford, new sup. erintendent of the city schools, re turned Monday from a week's absence In Portland and other Oregon cities. Mrs. Carrie Dodson of Columbia City was a St. Helens visitor last Monday. Mrs. Dodson is planning on her annual visit to California this fall. Mrs. C. T. Kavanagh went to Port land Monday evening to meet her sis ter, Miss Mary Xiegen of Bismarck, N. Dak., who will remain here on a vacation. R. Miss Jennie Marin who has been living In San Francisco for the past several years, arrived in St. Helens Sunday and will make her home here for the present. John L. Storla was down Rainier and Clatskanle way Sunday In the interest of . the Port of .Columbia proposition. He met with good suc cess and found the people of those sections favorable to the plan of cre ating a port. Dr. E. C. Wade Is the possessor of a brand new Ford coupe, one of the ery best and most up-to-date, so the doctor says, that Henry Ford has so far turned out from his factory. And Fieldhouse, from whom the pur chase was made, freely backs him up in the assertion." William D. Bennett, democratic candidate for public service commis sioner for the western district, was in St. Helens Wednesday putting a few props under his political fetces. Mr. Bennett believes in that early bird and worm theory and Is getting into the game early. The Swedish Baptist "Mission t Ir- clo" will meet at the home of Mrs. Hamnierbeck at 2:M p. ni. on Aug. j 11th. Mm. H. E. Wynum of Minneapolis, Sllnn., is a guest this week of Mrs. H. D. Scott. The two ladies were girlhood friends. Ed. Ballagh was out Wednesday for the first time In ten days, having been laid up at home under the wea ther, so to speak. J. A. Wlkstrom and family of Othelo, Wash., und J. W. Van Natta and family spent the week end a Seasidu last week. Billy Flynn, who has been work in in the filing room at the mill dur ing the absence of Mr. Maiming, spent Sunday at his home In Silverton. O. L, Wheeler, who was injured while at work in the lath department of the St. Helens mill some time ago, is still at the Good Samaritan ho I'ltal. A card from C. H. Thompson, who left here a few weeks ago for the east, says that himself mid wife are both well and having a fine tlmo at Ionta, Michigan. Miss Beth Perry left Sunday foi Kern Hill to re-open school there. Until September 1st she will instruct enly the first - grade, the regular school session beginning then. Miss Agnes Engstrom, who for the past month has been staying with her sister, Mrs. Hammerbock. has re turned to her position in Portland. She will enter a business college this fall.
