' Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Duncan and Ray Duncan of Portland spent Sun diiy with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Duncan. The manv friends of Miss Laura Fair are pleased to see her com pletely recovered from recent ir ness. Her appearance at grange was heartily welcomed. Haying is nearly through and the crop has proven a bounteous one. Grain and hay crops r.re good, but vegetable and garden truck Is very late and backward. H. Nordin, son of A. Nordin. will leave in a few days for Texas where he expects to remain for several months. The Nordin family came from Texas to Warren. Mr. and Mrs. R. J Slothower of Vancouver, Washington, spent Sun day with their brother and sister, A. Slothower. Mr. Slothower is one of the heavy prune growers of Clarke county. Washington County Fruit Inspector Morris Is spending a week or ten days in the Nehalem valley. He is accompanied by Raymond Harms, Alpheus Well born and H.O. Morrto and Is sum mer pruning and cleaning trees of tht logging companies that have been neglected for years. Death visited the home of Albert Anderson on Wednesday when the scythe bearer took Mrs. Anderson, hi helpmate and companion. Mrs. Au derson has been a sufferer for some time . but apparently had improved Boniewhat The Anderson's are only residents of Waren for a couplo of years, having come here from North Dakota. The regular business meeting of the grange was held on Saturday night. A good attendance wag pres ent and matters of importance were discussed. Marked dis-sutisfactlon was manifest at the continued ab sence of some of the officers while the members wero so regular in atten dance, and the opinion was expressed that their resignation should be r.sked for. The Morton boys of Bachelor Flat were admitted to membership, i CLATSKANIE (From the Chief) The many friends of Mrs. J. J. Geary will be pleased to know she is so far recovered from her recent Illness as to be able to return home, after spending several weeks in the hospital at Portland. She returned home last evening. Miss Ada Hand and Clyde Holmes, both of this city, were united in mar riage on Saturday evening last,- Rev. S. Darlow Johnson officiating. The ceremony was performed at the home of the groom s parents, Mr. and Mrs W. R. Holmes of Delena. Miss Eva Baylls has accepted a position In the postoffice mude vacant by the resignation of Misa Catherine Sutherktnd who, with bur mother and small brother, George, has gone to Seattle to spend the summer with Mr. Sutherland who fs working In that city. Delmar Masten and wife are visit ing relatives in Yankton. Mr. and Mrs. Surmalse of Portland visited Mrs. Steve Larapa last week. Charles Brown expects to leave Washington, D C, for France in the near future. Mr. Strooter visited Mr. Doud nea. the 8 mile spring and expects to move again to this neighborhood., Miss Ada Bolster, the youngest daughter of Mrs. Tyler, who lived some years ago in Yankton, visited Mrs. Nagle recently. Born, on Friday morning, July 9, to Mr. and Mrs. John Buttle, a ten pound boy. The stork has brought four girls to the Suttle home and this is their first boy. of difference with the crowd. He has a miniature mill whel which is turned by the water and it looks very nat ural. He also made a polo swing which is for the boneftt of the camp ers and picntcers. TRENHOLM Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Smith has Mr Smith, Sr., as a visitor this week' He is past eighty years old, but is very lively for one of that age. He enjoys the sight of the tall timber and seems to think a great deat of the coutnry. He hails from Portland. A bang up good picnic was held Sunday July 11, at the Clatskanle camping grounds. Mrs. Scoffern and a daughter from Houston, Texas, are enjoying the ranch near Oregon City. A little Impromptu dancing party at Clover Hill Friday night was very tnuch enjoyed by tlisse attending. Fred Henderson returned to Wood land Friday having spent several days with Mr. and Mrs Will Clark. Joe Antone of St. Helens Is stay ing with his sister, Mrs. June Eng lish, where they are camped west of town. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson ana daughter Vera will soon leave for Corvallis where Miss Vera will take pharmacy at the O. A. C. Robinson and Mason are installing a steam engine at their mill near McBrtde canyon, the gas engine hav ing proved unsatisfactory. One of the bungalows recently pur chased by the S., P. and S. from the Soramarstrom shipyard was brought cupled by Mr. Joe Birnle and family. Daly brothers. Through a mistake of the cor respondent Mrs. Henderson was men tioned as being a surgical patient at 'he Astoria hospital. It is Mrs. Hol lis who has been 111 and who at last reports .is doing nicely.
