Of the number, 10 are from Colum bia county. Mrs. Harold Broughton and daugh ter returned Tuesday evening from l'ortlnnd where they had been spend ing several days with relatives. Judge W. J. Full:rton left Wed nesday morning for Portland r.nd will undergo a slight operation while there. Norman Merrill, a well known cli izen of the Clatskanie district, was a business visitor in St. Helens Mon- Mrs. T. J. Superintendent Carl Christenson of tho St. Helens Shipbuilding Com pany went down to Coos Bay Friday to inspect some of the vessels being built there. Father Hampston of McMinnville was here Monday greeting friends. He str.tes ho likes McMinavillo very well and is getting along nicely with his church work in that city. H. E. The Red Cross dance at the City Hall Saturday aijlit was well pat ronized and a nice sum realized which will bo turned over to Port land headquarters. T. H. Roy is having an addition built to his store. The growth of his business called for ruoro space and when the addition is completed, Tom. will have quite a largo storo room. Frank Welter. Jr., of Goble, was a caller at the Mist office Monday. He and his mother, Mrs. Frank Wel ter recently purchased a Bulck Six and Frank can now appreciato the roads much moro thaa he did when cutting spruce and building roads for Uncle Sam in tho Puget Sound country. J. T. Hardy, Traveling Freight & Passenger Agent of the S. P. & S. Ry. system, was in St. Helens Friday last looking after the interests of the company ho represents. His ter ritory is from Portland to Astoria and to Pasco, Washington and includes llend, Oregon, and he states that no place in the territory impresses him more favorably than does St. Helens. J. E.
