SEPTEMBER 5. 1919 FARM NOTES Sulfur l Money-Maker An increase of 3000 toua of alhlfa in Deschutes county resulted from the application of ten carloads 300 tons of sulfur last winter. This bhj shipment of sulfur by tho farm bureau hung up world record for agricultural use. The value of the increase was. $60,000 at present al falfa prices. Estimates place sulfur shipments next winter r.t 12 cars. They will be applied to lands not treated last winter, on which results will last for three years. Two-thirds of the 12,000 acres of alfaifa In Dei chutes county will then have been brought into the preferred class by applications of Bulfur. Dodder Pesters Alfalfa, Doddered alfalfa belongs to the west, says Miss Agnes Ryder, seed analyst and tester of the federal and O. A. C. soed testing laboratory at Corvallts. For more than a year be fore coming to Oregon Miss Ryder worked in the Washington, D. C, office where she handled much east ern and mid western seed that was free from dodder. She finds a good deal of it in Oregon and the other northwestern states served by tho Corvallis branch rnd thinks consid erable pains might well be taken to eliminate it. She will test samples sent by fr.rmers free, both for purity and germination. Wheat receipts from farms, 42, 349.000 bushels against 30,093,000 bushels for same week a year ago. Wheat receipts from farms previous week, 44,997.000 bushels against 35,664,000 bushels previous week a year ago. Wheat receipts from farms June 27th to August 16tn, 245,726,000 bushels against 213, 751,000 bushels for same period a year ago. Flour produced during week, 2, 633,000 barrels against 2,387,000 barrels the same week a year ago. Flour produced previous week, 2, 615,000 barrels, against 2,284,000 barrels previous week a year ago. Flour produced June 27th to Aug ust 15th, 13,537,000 barrels against 11,937,000 barrels for same period a year ago. Total stocks of wheat, all elevators and mills, 164,271,000 bushels against 125,292,000 bushels for the same week a year ago.
