ST. HELENS MIST, FRIDAY, JUNE 6. 1919 6 HILL CLIMBING RECORD MADE WITH RED CROWN When Charles Basle a few days ago drove bis Peerless Eight over the famous Rim O' the World hill climb ing course In record time, he was us ing Red Crown gasoline. C. S. Stone, In his Essex, who was second, also had Red Crown in his tank. Unqestlonably this course, which covers eight miles of grade ranging from five to eighteen per cent through the Waterman canyon near San Bernardino, is one of the sever est teeth motor fuel can have any where m the country. There is hardly a straight stretch of road in the whole distance and the inumer able slarp curves and twists, com bined with the grade, present diffi culties which can only be overcomo by a err uclns the best quality of gasoline. This Rim O' tho World hill climb ing contest Is one of the few stock car events regularly held In Califor nia. That the two winning cars should both hr.ve used Rod Crown is a tribute to the quality and steady power that It possesses in every day use. The high quality of Red Crown was again demonstrated under the heavy strain of this hill climbing event. As a straight distilled, all re finery gasoline it has tho full and complete chain cf boiling points necessary for consistent performance. Low boiling points give easy start ing, medium boiling points quick and smooth acceleration, and high boiling points give steady, depend able power and long mileage. On a Fiddler's Gravestone. Among the many quaint Inscrip tions on memorial stones to parish clerks and sextons Is one in Warn ham churchyard to Michael Turner. who had filled those offices for half a ecntuiy. He was a violin player much in request for balls and parties for miles around (he was known to be fast asleep on more than one oc casion while playing a country dance) and was always rondy to give a capi tal song. The inscription reads: His duty done, beneath this stone Old Michael lies at rest: His rustic rig, his song, his Jig, Were ever of the best. With nodding head the choir he led, That none should start too soon, The Beconds, too, he sang full true, His viol played the tune. So, when at last his age had passed, One hundred less eleven With fr.lthful cling to fiddle siring, He sang himsolf to heaven. Edinburgh Scotsman.
