Admundscn returned Mon day from Portland where she had been visiting for several days. Mrs. S. Ketel left Saturday for Astoria where she will visit with her daughter, Mrs. Sam Alexander. J. H. Wellington was in Portland Monday on a business mission and incidentally tock in the big circus. Miss Amy George, who hss boon spending some time in Portland, was in St. Helens a few days tMs week. Omer Spencer, attorney for the S. P. & S. R. R. Co., wts In St. Hel ens Tuesday in the interest of the company he represents. The local Moose Lodge gave a Bocial and supper Tuesday night. The latter was served at Baker's restau rant. A general good time was had. Another one of those nice dances will be held r.t the Skating Rink Sat urday night. Miss Anna Kosher, who has been employed at Taber's store for some time past, hns resigned her position and left Wednesday for her home in Portland. Judge W. J. Fullerton attended the grand lodge meeting of Oregon Odd Fellows at Salem this week and reports a fine meeting and an en joyable time. The steamer Willamette laden with with a big cargo of lumber is sched uled to sail tonight for California. Her passenger accommodations have all been taken. The Methodist Ladies will give a dinner In the Methodist church par. lore this evening at 5:30 o'clock. The price of a real good dinner, if It is obtained there, is only 35 cents. The strfimer Ernest H. Myers completed her lumber cargo and sailed Tuesday night tor California ports. Attorney Frod Herman of Rainier was here Thursday on legal business and an interested hearer of the flow of oratory produced by the attorneys in the case. Fred Hansen, who has been in the army service for the past year, ar rived in St. Helens Wednesday, com. lng from Baltimore. He was station ed there for the past few weeks, guarding U. S. ammunition supplies. The Independent Automobile Com pany report the following sales made during the first several days of this week: a Ford to M. J. Burkhead of Bachelor Flat; a Ford to n. C. How ard and a Chevrolet to Fred Kcm moyer of Scnppoose. The government steamer. Birch Leaf, is at the St. Helens Lumber company's docks taking on a partial cargo of railroad ties for New York delivery. She will complete her cargo of 1,500,000 feet today and leave down river on her long trip. Superintendent Carl Chrlstensen of the St. Helens Shipbuilding Com pany, returned Sunday morning from San Francisco where he went to consult with the McCormlck com pany relative to building a steam schooner.
