If such a law were passed, It would rot, of course, apply to aliens here only temporarily, but those, who Ilk, the man who applied to Dr. Wado for help in making out his military es emptlon papers and stated he had been In America for 34 years and had not become a citizen aud wished to -bo allowed to remain in America cn account of the good Jobs and the high wages he would receive, and for others, who Intend making the United States a residence for a gh SOCIAL I.IFK I.ACKIXO St. Helens, with all of Its advan tages, has one disadvantage. This, however, can be easily overcome, and when It Is overcome, tho disad vantage becomes a big advantage We refer to the lack of social life In St. Helens. Kvory one who comes to St. Helens and remains here for any length of time, comments on tho lack of social affairs. Tho older residents know their statements are true, be cause they went through the sanu thing, and the. real old timers also know tho statement Is true, for they have done little to foster social activities. In most every other town the ouug people meet at the residence of some one who has n daughter or son, and enjoy social life. The Mist is heartily in Bympathy with the idea of imposing a head tax on aliens. Why not? There are millions of unnaturalized aliens in America. They are receivlns the benefits of American citizenship (and in some instances, abusing them), without assuming any of the responsibilities of American citizen ship. They were not required to ren der military service during the war, but took advantage of and profitted by the war. In mr.ny instances their property interests are abroad and their savings are sent abrond, ana lighten possible.
