ST. HELEN$ MIST, FRIDAY, MAY 24. 1918. 3 CORRESPONDENCE A AAA AAAAA AAA SCAPPOOSE Mrs. Hazel Cooke and little son returned home from Portland Mon day evening. Mrs. R. F. Xiblock entertained "The Neighbors" on Wednesday, at a luncheon. Those present were Mrs. D. Bessemer. Mrs. W. Cambell, Mrs. L. G. Smith,. Mrs. C. Lamber son and Mrs. May Gctchell. Arch Duncan, of Tacoma, spent the week-end with home folks. inc ncu ross social at v-napman Saturday night resulted in $60.00. Mr land. M. B. Beaver has a new Over- Tony Cuba has rented the Dan Freeman cottage. Floyd Grewell has purchased the Jess Morgan property, and taking possession this week. Mrs. Jakes had her household effects removed on Tuesday. .The Lady Maccabets gave a re ception Thursday afternoon in Watts & Price hall in honor of Mrs. Earl Kilworth, Mrs. W. C Campbell, Mrs. Arch Duncan and Mrs. Roy Van Clevemembers, who had been absent for a long time. Refreshments were served and all report a good time. Mr. -and Mrs. Arch Duncan were guests of Miss Eva Garrison for dinner on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Crowley, Judge Cooper and Mrs. Cooper were guests of Mrs. Nivlock Thursday evening at dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Crowley are enjoy ing a vacation at the springs for a couple of weeks. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Butler left Sunday morning for a trip to Fort Leovenworth, Kansas, to see their son Clauncy, who is leaving for France in the U. S. engineer corps. The lecture in the hall Saturday night by Mr. Skulason was well at tended, and a fine talk we had. There was a short program. Marjorie Hollsday spent the week end with the home folks, returning to Eugene on Sunday. Dr. and Mrs. Hatfield. Mr. Woods. Dr. and Mrs. Blatchford motored to Portland Sunday afternoon, and heard Hobson sneak on "Amerira in the War." William Schultz, who was operated on for appendicitis and other com plications last Saturday, is slowly improving. WARREN The Red Cross drive, under supervision of Miss Maud Watts, Xo. 348 Wolf Creek Assembly. United Artisans, wish to thank all those who supported the basket social last Saturday evening. One hundred and twenty dollars was rea lized for the benefit of a neighbor, Mr. I.arsen. who was burned out a chnrl tint aim i lie w arren school closed a very successful school year on Saturday ninht, when IS pupils were gradu ated, the largest class in the history of the school. Rev. A. Hisey, of St. Helen's, spoke long and entertain ingly to the graduates, extolling them on their behavior and of their conduct, by which they will be judged. Prof. C. J. Russell con gratulated the class as being 100 per cent uerfect trradiiate. Since coming to Warrell Prof. Russell has made a very marked improvement in the conduct of the school chil dren. Their deportment and man ners are exceptionally advanced and the advancement of all under his charge is freely commented on. He has resigned to accept a position with the University of Oregon at Eugene, where he will fit himself for greater possibilities in the teach ing ilne. His departure is regretted hy both parents and pupils. There has been no one as yet appointed to fill the vacancy. His many friends wish him the utmost success in his future endeavors. Agnes Kallherg, N'ussbauiner and Private Stanley Thomas attended the Red Cross dame in Deer Island Saturday. Mr. Henry Welter, who has been laid up with a smashed finger for some time, returned to work at the shipyards Monday. Mrs. Hccston, of Purjl.ind, is visit ing Mrs. M. llnveii. Miss Audrey Mallabcr, who has been attending hitth school in Rainier, is home fur the summer vacation. Geneva Fowler, who has been at tending high school in Kalania, Wash., is home for the sumiuei vacation. Mrs. Cass Fowler is spending the J. P. Do week-end in Portland. 57 The Red Men's Lodge held open meeting in their hall here, Tuesday evening. Mrs. S. L. Vuigt attended the commencement exercises of the Ka lania High School Friday evening. Harry Bishop and Otto Cant well were present also. NOTICE.
