Miss Uuhy Hrouso Is visiting in West St. Helens this week, at the home of Mr. Lniubertson. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Iiroughton, after several days spent with rela tives in Portland, returned to St. Helens Tuesday. After spending several days in Portland visiting Mrs. J. L. Zipperer, Mrs. M. E. Miller returned to St. Helens Monday. Miss Bess Hendershotl will leave today for her home in Eugene. Kor the past month she has been a guest of her sister, Mrs. V. E. l.idyard. Mrs. V. H. Brakko and son re turned to their Portland home Wednesday, after a week's visit with Mrs. Brakke's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Muckle. Jimmy Hicks, who for sumo time was captain of the steamer Willavis with headquarters in St. Helens, was visiting friends here Monday. He is now captain of the river steamer Hercules, which is engaged in towing rock from Fisher's Landing to the Columbia river jetty. The steamer Multnomah arrived in Sunday noon and went to the docks of the Columbia County Lum ber Company for cargo. The vessel sailed Tuesday night with 952,000 feet of lumber and a fair passenger list. Her destination Is San Pedro. J. -M. Burgess and daughter Made line of Pendleton, arrived in St. Hel ens Tuesday nnd are the guests of Mrs. M. E. Miller. Mrs. Burgess is Mrs. .Miller's sister. The Congregational h'.dies will hold their annual sale of Hot Cross Buns on Thursday, April 5, at Guild hail. In conjunction with this will be held an Easter parcel post sale. Mrs. H. E. Abry and daughter Mary have arrived from Portland to join their husband and father, H. E. Abry, county roadmaster. They have established tln-ir home in the Day tesidence. Harry Tarhell, who is connected with the United States internal rev enue department, was in St. Helens Tuesday looking after the interests of 1'ncle Sam. He was accompanied by bis brother, Charles Tarhell, of Sa guache, Colo. While here they vis ited their relatives, 0. L. Tarhell, of Yankton, and A. H. Tarhell. of Warren. V. I). Kelly has resigned his posi tion as janitor of the McBrido school and will devote his limu to farming. Mr. Moffitt has been appointed to the position made vacant by Mr. Kelly's resignation. Miss Edna Potter and Miss Bonnie Goiisman celebrated their birthdays by giving a party in the Houlton hall Thursday of last week which was at tended by many young folks. Tlie evening was spent in playing cards and dancing. Refreshments were served and a most enjoyable evenig war. i-pent. Avon Lodge No. 02, at Its regular meeting Tuesday night, supplemented Iho regular proceedings by giving a lunch in honor of M. E. Miller, who is oon to leave for California.
