Tyler, of Newport, stopped off here today, and tonight at the Com mercial Club rooms will manipulate a Victor Victrola, a music "masheen" better than the best. All the mem bers of the club have a cordial invita tion' to listen and smoke a cigar as the sweet cadences float forth on the atmosphere. Cards have been received by friends in this city, announcing the arrival on October "4 of a 10-pound baby boy at the home of Rev. and Mrs. T. S. Hand saker, Davenport, Wash. The parents were formerly prominent residents of this city, Rev. Handsaker having been for several years the popular pastor of the ' Christian church here, and they have many friends in Corvallis who ex tend congratulations. The little -.son has been christened Eugene Sterling. Last evening, the members of the Catholic Altar Society held their extra ordinary meeting: to arrange the details of the Bazaar for the benefit of the church building fund. It was decided to hold the Bazaar on Nov 18, 19, and 20, under the chief management of Mrs. A. Metzger, Mrs. C. A. Gerhard, and Mrs. J. M. Nolan. These three ladies will respectively superintend the candy booth, 1 the cooking department, - and the fancy booth; and will soon call on their numerous friends and acquaint ances to assist them in their work. This is the third action that has been brought against the editor within the past three weeks, and it' is reported that he will be' again, arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. Any sparsely settled road dis trict in Oregon can get good roads now by simply voting in December on the initiative of ten er cent of its citizens such funds as may be required. ' The cash can come from the absentee land speculators and the residents can get their money back in war rants for work. The roads will raise land valuespermanently, and the idle tracts can be made to pay their share by a little acting together.
