F The Westmoreland Apartments offer family housing three miles from campus The Westmoreland Apartments are located on Garfield Street and 14th Avenue. The complex is geared toward meeting the needs of students who have children. BYBILLCHENEVERT FREELANCE REPORTER The Westmoreland Apartments sit on 26 acres of land along the Amazon Creek between 13th and 18th avenues along Arthur and Garfield streets. They are approxi mately three miles from campus and two miles from Eugene’s down town district. The 1960s architecture and the open, park-like atmosphere of the grounds are a far cry from other graduate housing options. For some students this is exactly what they want; and it’s cheap. Westmoreland is family housing that gives University student families low rent and also accommodates them with childcare, preschool and medical services either on the grounds or right next to them. On the Westmoreland grounds there is the Westmoreland Chil dren’s Center, which is an Erb Memorial Union program. The Cen ter includes a playground, a big wooden pavilion and sheds that presumably store lots of fun toys for the Westmoreland Preschool, whose sign reports that it is an EMU Child Care and Development Center.
