Kelly said the next step is for the Quinneys to agree to terms set by the Eugene Parks Department staff and then to inform the public about the plan. “At that point the staff will call a pub lic meeting and send out postcards,” Kelly said. “At the general level I think it’s a great idea for the park to be opened with increased visibility. ” The latest project for WUN was gathering residents and local employ ees Thursday morning to sign a patch of wet cement on 14th Alley. Everyone from Quiznos Sub employees to the mayor attended to engrave the slab. “This will last 100 years,” Rixmann said, “and people will come back and remember how much fun it was. ” WUN has also helped persuade the city to put street names and dates on the alleys as part of the alley-paving project that is currently under way in the West University neighborhood. Rixmann found construction workers were skeptical of the engravings be cause “they just do not do that sort of thing anymore,” he said. “Everything has got to be clean, clean, clean and they say ‘we don’t do that.’ Well, you rub the soul out when you think that way,” Rixmann said. Rixmann said he and other neigh bors have even named some of the pot holes in one alley before it was paved.
