IN BRIEF Club with Caribbean flavor to open in Eugene Have you ever eaten alligator? How about frog legs? Curried goat, anyone? Customers will have the op portunity to try those and many more exotic dishes at the Blue Luna Club, which is scheduled to open July 22. The Blue Luna Club will specialize in Caribbean food “based on my fa vorite cuisines,” said Lisa Sanchez, executive chef. Sanchez bases her knowledge on extensive travels in the region, as well as 35 years of experi ence as a chef. For those who haven’t traveled to the Caribbean, the food may seem a bit unusual. Sanchez said that this is because the Caribbean culture and food are the mix of a variety of different cultures, including French, Spanish and Dutch, that have historically occu pied the region. In the Blue Luna Club is a team of people working to get all the details right for the opening. And clearly, the place is all about detail. Glass etch ings of palm trees appear on the win dows. Husband and wife professional muralists Gail Glasier and Rick Blan chard are contributing their work for the walls. Magnolia flowers have been painted inside to match the magnolia trees outside. The dance floor will feature specialty lights that give the ceiling an underwater effect. Even the toilet in the ladies’ restroom has been painted artistically. The club features a full menu and will be open seven days a week until 2:30 a.m. There will be music, danc ing, a poolroom, outdoor seating for 50 people, more than 30 types of rum and never more than a $2 cover charge, according to Sanchez. “This will be like a classier club you would find in Los Angeles or Mi ami,” she said. “It’s going to be fun and exciting, and there’s nothing like this place in town,” bar manager Emily Smith said. The “Lord of the Rings” films were fun to watch but left me feeling emo tionally empty. But I do still try and still hope for something better to catch on with the public at large. But once you have become familiar with the history of an artistic medium you begin to dis cover how much out there just re treads what has already been done. Now if you don’t mind, I’ve got to go light up my hookah.
