In honor of this, Stan Micklavzina, a professor in the University physics department and the head “Ringmas ter,” as he likes to call himself, has decided to put together “From New ton to Einstein.” The one-hour show/demonstration is not a lecture, but what Micklavzina describes as a “fun, light-hearted interactive jour ney of physics demonstrations for all ages to enjoy. ” The two showings will introduce physics principles, including many that cannot be tried at home. Demo room assistant Zach Adler described the event as “a whole bunch of really cool physics demonstrations to keep people interested.” The demonstration, which takes place on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Willamette 100 and on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Science Factory, will in clude demos from Micklavzina and five undergraduates. The undergrads taking part in the show are members of the Society of Physics Students. “We spent our lives doing this in the physics department and we want people to see what we do and why we think it is so interesting. We want to do anything we can to inform the community and help them appreciate physics,” demo room assistant San dra Penny said. The show is being funded by Micklavzina himself as well as the University Physics Department. The show is free to attend, with a suggest ed $2 donation. The film’s central appeal is that although it deals with existential issues, it never takes itself seriously, instead choosing to revel in the endless absurdities of how we view ourselves and what gives our lives meaning. This is the sort of film that bothers to ask, “What would it be like if a supermodel started ques tioning the meaning of her existence?” and then answers with a long stream of comic set pieces. While the film doesn’t pack enough of a punch to be a master piece, it gets by on the originality of its concept and the strength of its ma terial. With its fast-paced, free asso ciative feel, the film is one of the most interesting comedies so far this year. “1 Heart Huckabees” opens this Friday at the Bijou Art Cinemas. ryannybmg@ daily emerald. com GOT A STORY IDEA? give us a call oS at 346-5511 J< TvU'.RAi r 2004-05 Oregon Men's Basketball Student Ticket Release Dates ITT r Pay'ng r St S 030 PiCk UP °ne ticket for each 9ame at the ticket offices located in the EMU a total o? 2Ion ST ^ ,CaSeS'tiCketS are distributed two games at at time.
