His previous career-high was four grabs for 69 yards in a 21-17 win against California on Nov. 8,2003. His entire offensive performance came in the fourth quarter and was a major component of Ore gon’s late comeback. He caught two touchdown passes for 10 and 14 yards, respectively. The 6-foot-4 junior’s eight recep tions in one game ranks fourth all time among tight ends at Oregon. Day also amassed the third-best receiving total for an Oregon tight end with 152 yards. His previous season-high mark was 32 yards against Indiana. The Las Vegas native’s big day opened things up for Demetrius Williams on the outside, as the wide receiver hauled in 12 passes for 126 yards. His blocking also paved the way for Terrence Whitehead’s 166-yard rushing performance. Day has started the last four games and played in all five. His four touchdowns scored is a team high. His first pair of touchdowns came in a 27-yard outing against Idaho. Overall, Day has collected 238 yards on 16 recep tions this season, good for 14.9 yards per catch. — Stephen Miller Running back Mike Bell Arizona’s junior running back Mike Bell has had the Wildcat offense placed on his back in 2004. With a sophomore under center and three sopho mores at the receiver position, Bell is counted on to continue to improve on last year’s success. “We’re going to get him the football and everybody in the Pac-10 knows it,” Arizona running backs coach Kasey Dunn told the Arizona Daily Star. “So now it’s just a matter of playing fundamentally sound football, blocking and executing the of fense.” Bell is the Pac-lO’s leading returning rusher from 2003, after finishing third in the conference in yards per game (76.7). He finished with 920 yards on 168 carries and was the lone Arizona representative on the All-Pac-10 team. Bell rushed for a career-high 222 yards and three touchdowns against Washington last year. For the season, the Doak Walker award hope ful has 429 yards rushing — including last week’s season-high 134 yards against UCLA — on 88 at tempts with two touchdowns. Bell’s career total of 1,664 yards moved him into No. 14 on Arizona’s career rushing list. “He does every thing well,” Ari zona head coach Mike Stoops told the Arizona Daily Star. “The game comes easy to Mike.
