NCAA continued from page 1 "This is an example of what we feel is bad judgment in the eleventh hour of crunch time, which is no excuse." Football head coach Mike Bellotti said he will continue to stress to his coaches the importance of obeying NCAA re cruiting rules in the future. "I am very aware that it puts our entire Uni versity in jeopardy as I think everybody else is too," Bellotti said. "It's unfortunate and we're going to work very hard to make sure it does n't happen again." According to a NCAA news release, the 52 year-old Campbell traveled to the prospect's hometown the day before the recruiting dead line on Jan. 16. The prospect considered sign ing a national letter of intent to attend either the University of Oregon or University of Cali fornia-Berkeley. After Campbell contacted the athlete for the third time, this time by phone, the prospect agreed to meet Campbell at his ho tel after the midnight deadline. After finding the letter of intent unsigned, the prospect was instructed to forge his father's signature and falsely indicate that both signatures were made before the deadline. It is a violation for an assistant to be present when a recruit signs a letter of intent. Bellotti said he was immediately made ■ Erik R. "Our coaches are on alert, as they have been before this ever occurred, that we take these things very serious," Bellotti said. "We will continue to emphasize that." Campbell will remain as the running backs coach, but has been reassigned to a different area of recruiting, said Bellotti. "He's aware of what he needs to do to reestablish his position as a recruiter," Bellotti said. "Gary is a great man, a great coach and does great things with his players. He is very anxious to put this behind him and get on with his career as a football coach." alextam @dailyemerald. com PULSE BRIEF Actors Cabaret to hold auditions for ‘Seussical’ The Actors Cabaret of Eugene will hold audi tions for an upcoming performance of "Seussi cal/' a musical based on the works of children's book author Dr. Seuss.
