FRITZ continued from page 1 her through every day of it, always by her side. When she died after 20 years of illness, Fritz started to invest his en ergy in photography. Fritz First became friends with his wife Terri Warpinski during a sum mer field course in photography in Eastern Oregon, which Warpinski taught and directed. Warpinski recalled the long, excit ing road they took toward marriage. "After empty gas tanks, evenings of exquisite chamber music in Beall hall, sailing through gale force winds in the San luans, side slipping through traf fic in Cairo, weathering turbulence over the Red Sea, driving a red Ca maro convertible around to chase the evening light near Santa Fe, racing through museums in Chicago and down steep stairs from Al Dier in Pe tra, we were married on December 21, 2001," Warpinski recalled. Fritz was a man of many interests. Me loved traveling, cooking, sailing, woodworking, rug making, clock making and crosswords. Fritz and Warpinski's photographs are currently on display in the "Art in the Family" exhibit at the Hult Cen ter's Jacobs Gallery. "His ability in the kitchen is leg endary, from teaching his son Eric to make a perfect sesame chicken at the age of 10, to his famous Cuban black bean chili with melon for a crowd of 20," Warpinski said. Although Fritz is gone, he will not be forgotten. "I will remember him with a big smile on his face, which was usually the case, jingling the change in his pockets," said Lobue. Fritz will be remembered through the buildings he designed and the people's lives he touched. "1 can see his hand everywhere on campus, graceful lines of buildings, thoughtfully designed spaces that re fresh the spirit, quality that will be used by students 100 years from now," Hecht said. "I can also see Garry's influ ence in the faces of the people he worked with. Garry taught them that there is another way ... we can be fair to all and still get the job done better than it had even been done before."
