ROETMAN continued from page 7 A tallest and biggest of my friends at a whopping 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, I just could never bring myself to sell out and join a team full of people I didn't know just to win a shirt. That all changed last month. Two of my friends found ways to win shirts during the spring. My friend Eryn claimed one in soccer, while Brandon was part of a champi onship softball team. Of course, each was quick to mb it in, knowing how badly I want one of my own. After that experience, I've changed my way of thinking. I'm fully ready to do whatever is necessary to get a shirt. Come next fall, I'm going to find a way to get on a football team full of quality players and I'm going to be the proud owner of a "University of Ore gon Intramural Champion,"T-Shirt. Watson (St. Louis Community Col lege) found success in the triple jump and long jump this year, garnering All-American status (ninth, 25, 2-1/2) in the latter during the indoor season. Etter moved south from Clackamas Community College and entered die season as Oregon's only upperclass man in the hammer throw. The Everett, Wash, native has consistently reached 190 feet this year and plans to use his experience from this season to prepare for his senior campaign. "I've had a mediocre year," Etter said. "I haven't won any meets like I used to at a community college, but •it's been a transition year and I've got ten used to it." Inico transferred from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kan., and has been an impor tant part of the 4 x 400 relay team. The Ducks figure to continue their strength next season, as they will lose only a handful of seniors, including distance runner Ryan Andrus, javelin thrower Adam Jenkins, decathlete Gabriel LeMay, pole vaulter Trevor Woods and Holliday. Oregon also will lose freshman distance runner Mike McGrath, who will not return to the team next season. End-of-the-year awards The Oregon track and field team held its annual end-of-the-year ban quet at the Casanova Center on Wednesday and announced several award winners. Mitchum was presented with the Dow Wilson Most Inspirational Award after a season full of hard work and improvement. He owns the na tion's third-best time in the 110 hur dles (13.50w) and also broke the school record in the 60 hurdles dur ing the indoor season (7.69). The Perry Holloman Most Im proved Award was given to the 4 x 400 relay quartet of Travis Anderson, Hol liday, Inico and Matt Scherer. Skipper took home the George Scharpf Outstanding Athlete Award, while Eric lx)gsdon was presented with the Bill Dellinger Cross Country Award.
