VOTE FOR YOUR UO BOOKSTORE BOARD OF DIRECTORS GRADUATE 1 -YEAR Jessica Beaudoin Jessica Beaudoin My name is Jessica Beaudoin and I am running for the graduate position on the University of Oregon Bookstore Board of Directors. My desire to work on the board comes from a life history of entrepreneurship. However, my fervor for education has prevented me from gaining the necessary work experience to attain my goal of running my own business. My qualifications for this position are rooted in my attendance to the University’s Law School as a second year student. I previously attended the University of Oregon for undergrad where I graduated with honors in Psychology. While an undergrad, I was uncertain as to what path awaited me. However, by attending law school and gaining further work experience, I have found that my passion lies in leadership. I currently hold the position of 3L Representative through the SBA in the law school and am a founding member of the Legal Ladies Golf Society. I feel that both of these positions and my current job at a local law firm allow me to contribute both a diverse perspective and new ideas. Furthermore, having lived in Eugene for seven years, my connections to the school and community are strong, which in turn enhances my ability to communicate to a large population of people. This, I feel, is a great way to ensure better service to the community as a whole. When you are voting, please remember that I am not only willing but eager to commit myself to this position. FACULTY-AT-LARGE Shelley Sutherland Shelley Sutherland Coordinator of Greek Life When I first became a member of the Bookstore Board, I did so because I thought I could be helpful in implementing the newly developed long range plan. Excellent progress has been made, but there are many elements of the plan still unfolding. Many of the components of that plan are very important to my colleagues. The purchase and refitting of a warehouse is not a glamorous project. However it does have a critical effect on both faculty and students in terms of accessibility and costs of products and services. At the same time the bookstore must continue to add services and programs with our users in mind. One such service is the establishment of a scholarship program to assist students in paying for books. My goals include the assurance that our new and remodeled branches meet the needs of the users of these state-of-the-art facilities. I also want to provide both students and faculty with increased discounts and additional convenient services. I want to provide faculty with a comfortable place to examine and choose curriculum materials. My experiences, my interest and my willingness to contribute to the continued progress of the Bookstore qualify me for another term. GRADUATE 2-YEAR Daniel Mackay Rahmat Rahmat J.L. Stiggins Daniel Mackay I would like to ask for your vote for the graduate student position now available for the IJ of O bookstore. I welcome the opportunity to be involved with student advocacy at the bookstore. I am presently a PhD student in the English program here, but I also have six months of experience as a bookstore manager at a local bookstore, and that means that I could bring some creative, but realistic, ideas to the board meetings. I want to be involved in the operation of the store through the board position because the presentation and selling of books to students is one of my key interests. If elected, I would be an active participant in securing new speakers for the U of O's author series. Thanks for your consideration. Rahmat Rahmat Hello, my name is Rahmat Rahmat. I’m a Graduate Physics Student and PhD Candidate in Manage ment. If I am elected, I am planning to: 1. Give 15% discount on all textbooks to all UO students. 2. Increase the salaries of the UO Bookstore workers by 15%. 3. Use my knowledge to improve the performance of UO Bookstore. 4. Give more benefits to UO students and UO Bookstore workers. 5. Increase the profit of UO Bookstore. 6. Make UO Bookstore to be the best bookstore in USA. I want to be the most active member of UO Bookstore Board of Directors in history. Please vote for me. Thanks! Rahmat J.L Stiggins My name is J.L. Stiggins and I am running for the 2 year Graduate Position to ensure that the Bookstore continues to represent the interests of students through improved book buyback rates and the lowest book prices available. Students should be notified prior to purchasing a textbook whether the Bookstore will re-purchase the book. The Bookstore should also attempt to carry a larger quantity of USED textbooks. Responsible decisions need to be made regarding the purchasing, holding, and shipping costs associated with supplying textbooks to keep costs down. I will also work to help the Bookstore build better relationships with computer hardware and software manufacturers to reduce the cost for educational software through educational discounts, similar to what already exists at many universities. Software companies want us to use these products in college so that when we enter “the real world," we will continue using their products. Since the Bookstore is owned by students, we should be the one’s profiting from its success. Vote to limit the suffering caused by high textbook and software prices. “Vote for J.L. Stiggins." STUDENT-AT-LARGE Prajkta Ingle Ryan Langsdorf Tyler Lewis Hayley Harris (No photo or statement submitted.) Prajkta Ingle "I am interested in representing the general student body because the UO Bookstore makes decisions that impact us dearly and directly. As the Student at-Large member of the Board of Directors, I will ensure that the Bookstore is meeting our needs by encouraging communication between the Board and U of O students. Thank you for voting, and I hope you have a great day!" Let me know if you have any questions/concerns for me. If not, thanks! Ryan Langsdorf As an organization owned and directed by UO students, faculty, and staff, the University Bookstore offers a distinguished opportunity for us to become active in creating not only a sales venue to effectively serve our campus, but also in establishing a space that expresses the needs of a community. In working with a diverse range of student and community groups at the UO, I’ve learned the great importance of making openness and responsiveness the defining characteristics of an organization. While serving as a Sophomore Board Member this year, I’ve made it my chief goal to gain an understanding of the relations between the Bookstore and the community, and to explore ways of improving the voice of students in positively influencing how we serve this campus. It is in this spirit of responsiveness that I will serve on the Bookstore Board if elected. Tyler Lewis What will benefit the future is what we have learned from the past Ancestral marks in time are the inspirations that last. Let us take the wisdom of the determined before us And continue cooperative organizations balanced with trust. From the origin of the Bookstore circa 1920 There has been a mission to support the student body. The roots have grown deep into the earth, and Have empowered and maintained dedication to students from birth. With these roots this outstanding organization continues to grow Stronger now than some might know Exceptional values and statistics that glow Make everyone feel comfortable when at the Bookstore. The most important thing is the continuation of success Positive leadership with time to invest With this opportunity I will put myself to the test To make us proud of our Duckdom, above the rest. We need to continue this humble vision Not for excessive $$$ or upper division, But for the meaning of life and the goodness for all With non-profit and love continuously reflecting inside the walls. For you and for all, I will work toward the divine Please remember my rhyme when it comes time.
