I'm looking forward to another one." The 1999 game was a well-played contest, at least for the Ducks. Oregon came into the contest with an 8-3 record, almost identical to this season. Current NFLers Joey Harrington, Reuben Droughns and Keenan Howry dotted the roster of the Ducks, but Oregon was still a vir tual unknown. The game proceeded to a be a tight ly knit contest, with the Golden Go phers holding a 20-17 lead with less than two minutes left in the game. Harrington, however, came into that final two minutes of the game and led the Ducks on a scoring drive that culminated in a 10-yard pass to Howry to seal the deal with 1:32 left. That's a distant memory. But it is a memory the Ducks would like to repeat come Dec. 31. "We're looking to compete against a good team," Oregon linebacker Jerry Matson said of this year's game. "It's going to be a real good chance for us. There's going to be no let down. I'm just excited to be in warm weather with my teammates." Most of Oregon's players said they would have preferred to play in the Holiday Bowl, which is held the day before the Sun Bowl in San Diego. Their reasoning was mostly that they wanted to go home, Southern Cali fornia being a hotbed of talent for the Ducks. But the Ducks are going to the Sun Bowl this season, which is awarded to the Pac-10 team with the third-best record. The Ducks said they would take that as consolation because they could've finished the season out of the bowl picture. How close they were. Just one year after the debacle in Seattle. "When I look at the Seattle Bowl, that was huge for me, being able to come in and play an extended peri od of a game for the first time, really, in my collegiate career," Oregon quarterback Kellen Clemens said. "We didn't win, but as far as confi dence in myself, it helped. And 1 think it helped my teammates' con fidence in me, as well. "But I'm not looking at the Sun Bowl as what's this going to do for my career, personally. This is the last game that can finish and complete our turnaround, what we've done as a team, which is something we're re ally proud of. "For right now, let's finish this 180-degree turnaround."
