The sophomore has tended to bend, not break when it comes to defending opposing offenses. At points dur ing the season — games against Washington State and Arizona State — the group did break, but bounced back in wins against California, UCLA and Ore gon State. Part of the secondary's slow start was getting used to a system implemented by new secondary coach John Neal that focuses less on man-to-man cover age. The Ducks are getting used to the new style of play — which resembles a zone coverage package — and it has begun to show. Against Minnesota the secondary may not matter too much, except if the Ducks' de fensive line can stop the Gold en Gophers running game. Minnesota features three strong running backs, which push the team to third na tionally in mshing yards. If Ore gon can stop that run n i n g game, then Phinisee and Co. will be vi tal against a passing game that can light up the scoreboard as well. It will take all parts of the Oregon de fense to earn a victory over the 24th-ranked team in the nation. MINNESOTA GOLDEN GOPHERS While the Minnesota offense gets moving via the run, the Oregon offense focuses primarily on getting the ball moving through the air. Minnesota junior Mike Wojciechowski is a prime example of the Golden Gophers secondary that needs to play on top of its game to get the job done against the Ducks. Minnesota is 39th in the nation in pass defense, allowing roughly 209 yards per game through the air. The Minnesota defense has faced bigger re ceivers in the Big Ten Conference, but like ly not any as fast as the Ducks' Sarnie Parker, Demetrius Williams and Co. Kellen Clemens has come into his own as quarter back of the Ducks and is reaching the level where he is reading defenses well on a consis tent basis. If the Golden Gophers can stop the Ore gon passing game, it will tilt the game in favor of Min nesota. Mike Wojciechowski junior cornerback Oak Creek, Wis. 5’8," 185 lbs.
