Ducks fade with poor final round in Illinois Oregon shoots a final round 304, dropping to seventh at the Windon Memorial Classic Jon Roetman Sports Freelancer After a promising first day in the Win don Memorial Classic, everything fell apart for the Oregon men’s golf team Tuesday during the final 18 holes at the den View Club in Glenview, 111. The Ducks shot a third-round of 304, the secondworst round of the day, dropping them two spots into a seventh-place fin ish. Their overall mark of 888 was 40 strokes behind tournament host and champion Northwestern, which set a course record by firing a 16-un der par 848. Oklahoma set the previous tournament record of 868 in 2000. Senior co-captain Chris Carna nan finished in a tie tor ninth place at 1-under par, after a final round 73. He started the day in a tie for third place after going 2-under for the first 36 holes. Duke was a distant second, finish ing 25 strokes behind Northwestern at 873. Stanford was third at 876, fol lowed by Georgia Southern and North Florida tied at 879. Northwestern junior Tom John son was the tournament’s individual winner, shooting a tournament record 66 on the final 18 holes. His three-round total of 206 was also a tournament record. Senior co-captain John Ellis and redshirt freshman Kyle Johnson tied for 17th at 4-over 220. Johnson started the day in a seven-way tie for ninth place. True freshman Gregg LaVoie and redshirt freshman Chris Dukemi nier each finished in the 80s for the second consecutive round. LaVoie finished in a tie for 51st af ter a 9-over 81. Dukeminier ended the day in 63rd, after an 11-over 83 put him at 240. Despite the disappointing end ing, the Ducks have now finished in the top 10 in seven regular-season tournaments.
