The defense played excellently, coming up with big turnovers early and giving the offense great field position. The Golden Knights, picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference by the Sporting News before the sea son, lost to a semi-tough Penn State squad in their first game. On the other hand, Arizona State, picked to finish ninth in the Pac 10, has already been destroyed by Nebraska and easily defeated East ern Washington. Eastern Washington?
