The sophomore from Houilles, France, is a two-time un der-23 French champion. He has performed well at big meets this season, most recently winning the Pac-10 meet with a leap of 55 feet, 3 inches. The fate of the Trojans at the NCAA meet may very well rest in the hands of a Frenchman. Pullman = Thrillsviile? Mooberry Track in Pullman, Wash., saw some thrilling finishes on Sunday that wowed the Pac-10 Championships crowd. The first came in the 110 hurdles, where Oregon’s Harris battled with USC’s Ryan Wilson right to the tape. Wil son edged Harris by a mere 0.01 seconds. The second close race came in the 400, where two in-state rivals battled for the top spot. I understand that this is “Track town, USA,” but a new baseball field wouldn’t take any glory away from historic Hayward. Oregon needs to bring baseball back so fans won’t have to travel to Corval lis to take in their fix of collegiate baseball and sweet smelling leather, chatter of teammates and the crack of the bat — which, un fortunately, has been replaced by the ping of metal, but we’ll leave that issue for another column.
