Martin Smith thinking about a

“His presence softens the loss of
Billy Pappas,” Smith said. “He’s a

Linnen immediately comes to

— albeit in the indoor season — is
currently No. 3 on national out

“I felt like I had it in me, but I
didn't think it would happen so

Football ticket sales increase
Season ticket sales for Oregon’s
2002 football campaign have
reached a school record 38,400,
leaving approximately 500 season
tickets available for purchase by the
general public in the expanded
Autzen Stadium.
The mark surpasses the school’s
previous season-ticket record of
30,365 from a year ago, with the
Ducks forced to curtail ticket sales be
fore July 1 each of the past two seasons.
Included among this year’s sales
has been the purchase of 35,200 re
served seats, compared with the
sale of 26,600 reserved season tick
ets all of last year. The remainder of
this year’s 3,000 tickets sold have
been general admission and family

hammer throw specialist Jennifer
Joyce occupying a spot on the
Berkeley roster.
“I want to see the team suc
ceed, but we knew we weren't go
ing to threaten to win the Pac-10
Championships this year,” Joyce
told the Daily Californian. “So
I've been focusing on trying to go
out with a bang.”
Another squad that could fin
ish as high as third, the Golden
Bears already had a good start in
the Pac-lOs with the performance
of Missy Vanek in the heptathlon.
The senior finished second, giv
ing the Bears 13 points — good
enough for second place entering
this weekend.

The supply of general admission
and family plan tickets has since
been exhausted, leaving only re
served seat tickets remaining on a
season basis for the cost of $253 for
Oregon’s eight-game schedule.
The Ducks have averaged crowds
in excess of the previous stadium ca
pacity of41,698 each of the past four
seasons, led by last year’s school
record of45,926 spectators per game.
The current Autzen Stadium expan
sion is expected to push the facility’s
capacity to nearly 54,000.
Additional single-game tickets are
currently available to Oregon foot
ball season-ticket holders only, with
reserved seats for the game against
the Huskies costing $50 and each of
the remaining seven games selling
for $29. All remaining home single
game tickets will go on sale to the
general public beginning July 1.

Washington — Simply a case of
being grouped in one of the top
conferences in the nation, the
Huskies look to a disappointing fin
ish for the second straight season.
Ranked in the top 25 in the na

pole vault, the Huskies just do not
have enough firepower to stay
with some of the nation’s best.
