Erica Beach recorded the loss, giving up four runs on five hits and three strikeouts dropping her record to 24-10. After the win Saturday, Arizona State came back strong in the Sun day contest, blanking the Ducks in a 6-0 game. Oregon could not I capitalize on any of its six hits off of a combined Arizona State pitching effort of Beach and Kirsten Voak. The Sun Devils scored one in each of the two innings and two in the fifth and sixth off of Oregon pitchers Anissa Meashintubby and Connie McMurren. Brun, Wright and Beach all connected for home runs for Arizona State. Football continued from page 7 Sophomore placekicker Jared Siegel hit a 26-yard field goal to start the Green team’s scoring on slaught in the game’s first drive. Later in the first quarter, Fife hit a wide-open Parker for a 39-yard score, the game’s first touchdown. Onterrio Smith — who finished the game with 29 yards on six car ries — took a screen pass from Fife early in the second quarter and ran over backup safety Stephen Clay ton to give Green a 16-0 lead. Fife hit Parker again for a 29-yard touch down and Clemens rocketed a pass to Allen for a 13-yard score late in the second quarter. “Overall, we came out and played real well as an offense,” Smith said. Jose Arroyo, the starting punter and backup placekicker, hit a 50 yard field goal for the White team’s only score. He also nailed a 65-yard kick during half-time warmups. “It’s very nice that we have two kickers who are capable of not only kicking extra points, but 50-plus-yard field goals.” Mike Beliotti Oregon head coach Asked if Arroyo was competing for the placekicker’s job, Beliotti said, “No, but it’s very nice that we have two kickers who are capable of not only kicking extra points, but 50-plus-yard field goals.” In the second half, Fife hit tight end George Wrighster for a 24 yard score. Clayton, among the many Ducks to switch uniforms, intercepted a pass from walk-on quarterback Matt Kennedy and re turned it 57 yards for a touch down to put the Green team ahead 44-3. Justin Phinisee, the starting cornerback with Steven Moore on Saturday, followed in Clayton’s footsteps, as he re turned an interception 37 yards to round out the scoring. Third-string quarterback Scott Vossmeyer was 5-for-ll for 51 yards for the White team. He was sacked four times, twice by Igor Ol shansky, who led the Green team with nine tackles. Eric Johnson had nine tackles for the second unit. Oregon begins fall workouts Aug. 10. E-mail sports editor Adam Jude at adamjude@dailyemerald.com. Tandem continued from page 7 it came when Fife hit the junior re ceiver on a slant from 39 yards out. Parker’s second touchdown came later in the second quarter. With a defender on him and Fife’s pass slightly under-thrown, Parker leaped above the white jersey guarding him and hauled down the pass in the end zone. “We executed pretty well,” Park er said of his connections with Fife. “I just tried to make plays like I’m capable of doing.” Fife said that sometimes, even he is amazed by the abilities of his receivers. “I’ve got to catch up with Sarnie and Keenan (Howry). They’re high light-reel guys,” Fife said. “I’ve got to make sure that I’m on my game so I can make them look good.” Although Bellotti is not sure who will be the starter in the fall, Fife made a strong bid for the job Satur day. The junior connected on 12-of 15 passes and averaged 18 yards per completion. Parker was his favorite target, hut he also hit Onterrio Smith and George Wrighster for scores. But Parker was, clearly, Fife’s main man. The two connected for seven completions, and Parker never dropped a pass from the quarterback. “I’ve spent a lot of time with him, and I’m really comfortable throw ing to him,’’ Fife said. Bellotti acknowledged that Fife overshadowed Oregon’s other quar terback hopefuls like Kellen Clemens and Scott Vossmeyer, but said he won’t make any decisions so far from the start of the season. “I’ve been somewhat expecting (Fife’s performance) because he’s a junior,” Bellotti said. “He’s made steady progress over the course of the spring. Kellen today was at times a bit lost, and that’s indicative of being a freshman. “For us, the job is still an interest ing situation that we will rejoin when we start fall camp.” As for Parker, he picked a good time to play well. With star receiver Howry still recovering from shoul der surgery and fellow starter Jason Willis also injured, Parker made a statement with his strong scrim mage performance. Now, Parker will spend the rest of the spring season honing his speed on the Hayward Field track. Parker, who runs the 100-meter dash for the Duck track and field team, will head to Columbus, Ohio, for the Jesse Owens Classic next weekend. Parker still has a chance to qualify for the NCAA Champi onships in late May. E-mail sports reporter Peter Hockaday at peterhockaday@dailyemerald.com.
