PROMO PROTO OHflEWIEK The Emerald entertainment desk gets an avalanche of pro motional photos for bands, movies and various “acts” during any given week. This special column takes a moment to pres ent the most bizarre/disturbing image received. This week’s photo features Las Vegas magic giants Siegfried and Roy, two pillars in the world of illusion, posed with the bewitching star of “Tomb Raider,” Angelina Jolie, at some undisclosed event. Scary thing is, this shot is one in a series of S&R photos featuring celebrities such as Cher and packs of adorable white lions and snow leopards. Nobody around the office really knows why these photos appeared earlier this year or what they are meant to promote, except perhaps the boys’ Hollywood-ready smiles and a keen knack for hanging out with the most adorable 1 percent of the animal kingdom. Yet nobody has filed them or discarded them, as though somehow waiting for that special moment when the duo sweep into Eugene for a one-night-only engage ment. Siegfried and Roy still perform in Las Vegas and are the namesakes for the Siegfried and Roy Secret Garden habitat, which houses protected and endangered animals. “Tomb Raider” is currently playing in Eugene. This per son will be responsible for designing and implementing projects to improve visibility and respect for the Oregon Daily Emerald within the University and the greater Eugene community. The position is being created at this time to address a va riety of needs. Among these are: •Increased readership •Greater visibility on campus and in the community •Recognition among businesses and organizations as the most effective way to reach the university market •Recruitment and retention of em ployees The Marketing Director will work. closely with the Editor-in-chief, Ad vertising Director, and other depart ment heads to identify needs. There will be significant latitude to suggest projects, propose budgets, coordi nate events, analyze results, and evaluate progress. The Marketing Director will report directly to the General Manager. Applicant must be a UO student with knowledge of and experience in marketing, promo tions, advertising or research. Knowledge of newspaper or media marketing is helpful. Must be famili ar with the Oregon Daily Emerald. Position is paid a salary of $70 per week. Estimated time requirement will average 10 hours per week, but require some flexibility depending on workload.
