Union YES!! www.opeuseiu.org Paid Advertisement News briefs Body found under Footbridge A Eugene fisherman discovered an unidentified body beneath the Autzen Footbridge on Friday, a University spokesman said. Joel Gorthy, assistant director of the University Communications Office, said the man contacted a Department of Public Safety officer about the body at 8:59 p.m Friday. “The fisherman was fishing, and saw a black male laying on the riverbank,” Gorthy said. Police spokeswoman Jan Power said the man discovered the body just west of the bridge and north of the soccer fields located on the south side of the river bank, and that the cause of death was unknown. “There was no apparent sign of foul play,” she said. She said there was no identification found on the body. Gorthy said the dead man was 45-60 years of age and had no known connection to the University. DPS officers contacted the Eugene Police Depart ment, following the discovery of the body. LTD rates to increase Beginning June 17 Lane Transit District will change five bus routes that serve the University area during the summer, and will also raise rates at the beginning of July. “The 76 Mac Court bus, the 78 UO/Oakpatch and 81 LCC/Harris buses will be cut,” LTD spokeswoman Cosette Rees said. Other routes that will have reduced summer runs include the 79 UO/Gateway and the 28 Hilyard, Rees said, adding that the Hilyard Street routes that will be cut are the ones that primarily serve South Eu gene High School. Planners have been working on a complete system redesign for next fall, Rees said. “The UO still has a tremendous amount of serv ice,” she said. “But the service for next fall will be very different.” University students receive free bus service with a student identification card. The Uni versity contracts with LTD to provide the service, which is paid for with student incidental fees.
